iFi Audio Asks... What (Product) Should We Make Next?
Jan 16, 2024 at 1:51 AM Post #63 of 167
Hey Folks,

Here's your chance to make your voices heard! Simple rules, pick a product that we don't currently make (CD Transport, DDC, LPS, Turntable?) and let us know if you want us to consider making this in the future. You can be as specific as you want, or perhaps just a general product category wish, it is completely up to you!

Let's have some fun here. This thread isn't for insulting or bashing current products, or each other's ideas for that matter. It's just a simple thread for "posting" your ideas on what you think, and what product you would like to see us "have a go" at!

Ready...Set...GO!
A DAC/preamp with balanced outputs preferably and a subwoofer output (2 RCAs?) with a good adjustable crossover filter say -24dB per octave for 2.1 home (PC) desktop listening. Maybe add adjustable delay for the sub as an option too. The only product that I see with this functionality is the MiniDSP Flex.

As someone who has bought over 11 Ifi products over the years, I have been waiting for you guys to ask this question for the longest...You guys seriously need to produce the following...

1. A few HDMI ENABLED DAPs AND COMPATIBLE PORTABLE HDMI DAC-AMPS (HDMI Is the last frontier that major hifi companies have not tackled for portable daps and dac-amps for better than balanced, digital coax, optical, usb, R2R and I2S sound...its a product space THAT NOBODY ELSE IS DOING)

2. A streamer Dac-Amp like a NAD, Eversolo or Rose Audio (or even the Fiio R7 or R9 line) has with a big screen and lots of functions

3. A good GaN and or tube power amp for speakers.

4. And Ifi hi-res music app than can be used with your gear instead of ones by other companies

Non-Android DAP with iFi house sound (Including IE-match and X-Bass or Truebass). Sublime. Don't care about the streaming support. No problem even for offline.

1. iematch 6.3(m) - 4.4or3.5(f); 2. linear power supply or batter power; 3. go pod with noice cancellation.

Take inventory of your strengths and your successes. iFi Audio is known for making products that are very versitile, swiss army knife approach, etc. Your X-Space and X-Bass are features that people routinely want in your products because everyone has headphones that are bass deficient, treble deficient, sound stage deficient. Keep that going. iFi has always been a company that solves problems...jitter, clean power, etc. and iFi is legendary for this. How about a Dynamic Range Expander (think dbx from the 1970-80s) for lower quality streaming built into your products? If iFi Audio could solve the dynamic range problem of streamed audio, along with your X-Bass and X-Space, what could possible beat this combination of features? In your iCan Signature everything is converted to DSD but lacks a bit of dynamics and is a bit softer/smoother. Could this problem be solved?

Turntables are a step in the wrong direction. It'll die with the death of the boomers--like Harley Davidson is dying. Don't do it even if it is nostalgic. The future is portable audio and miniturization. The future is putting on a pair of goggles or glasses and being transported to the venue with the whole audio-visiual experience.

Development is expensive so collaborating, merging, with other companies may be the way to go. Has iFi Audio ever think about merging with Astell & Kern? iFi Audio could never move into the DAP market, at this time, by developing its own tech because it's too expensive. Non-Chinese companies may need to band together to survive. Or, god forbid, merge or sell out with/to a Chinese company. License other's tech is another way to go--or cross license!

If iFi Audio went into IEM manufacture, I could imagine you folks making a very versatile custom tunable IEM (or headphone). Or, you could buyout a Chi-Fi IEM company. IEMs wouldn't be the boondoggle of turntables that's for sure. What if you could make a headphone that converts from closed to open at will so you didn't have to buy 2 different type headphones?

A stand alone pre-amp with all the famous iFi Audio gadget wizardry would appeal to all forms of audio. Think your iTube3 with balanced connections in a desktop form without the DAC built in. Think iSignature iPre-Amp.

How is your market penetration and service in South America? Africa? Australia? New Zealand? Maybe new markets would be more important that new products right now???

I think its cuz they screwed up a cable before so they had to modify their port or something. Either way a tighter port is always better then loose ones.

Not the case. A friends ifi Gryphon 4.4mm port started to come loose due to the pull when removing a 'normal' 4.4mm plug.

On topic, my suggestion would be a tube dongle dac/amp with similar functionality and power as ifi go bar

A handheld digital audio transport-only DAP (No DAC, no amp). I'm thinking of something like the xDuoo X10T II. This device would have S/PDIF coaxial and USB outputs, and be designed to work together with dongles and/or portable DAC/Amps like the hip-dac.

Cheers!
This is pretty interesting. Especially if they nail getting Qobuz and Tidal as well. Think a non-android DAP, probably Linux based, with Tidal and Qobuz and other services, offline-playign as well, DLNA, plus SD Cards and Coax/Spidf outs and the Ifi digital mojo. They already do this with the Neo DSD so it's just a case of turning it portable. For $800 it'd be tempting, and would pair well with Diablo X or any portable/non-portable DAC.
