As the title says,

I am looking for a icon, simbol, image, picture, graphic that simbolizes music.
I will not reveal the use of this yet so it doesn't influence your choices.


If you had to choose just one, what would it be.

The image needs to be black and white with simple and clean lines.

Duggeh, that's has been through my head several times, but for the specific use I am looking, it doesn't fit too well.

With the right creativity, lots could be done with vector graphics of musical notes. Look at these pics and already they give you a great jumping-off point that you can run with:

The modified eighth and sixteenth notes add a visual flair that would look great for a company's brand.

I can't imagine what would be more iconic representing music than a treble clef. But it isn't terribly original if to be used for a brand. I like ASR's last suggestion. It's simple and yet it has a certain interesting quality to it.
