If you could see one musical act (dead or alive) who would it be?

Anyway, I have at various times been sick about not seeing...
Mozart
Beethoven
Bartok
Tcshaikovski
The Beatles
Hendrix
S. R. Vaughn
Nirvana
Oingo Boingo

Best I've seen...
The Supersuckers
The New Pornographers
Brainiac
Robyn Hitchcock
Don Caballero
They Might Be Giants
Sonic Youth

Brian Setzer

Oh wow, I forgot Adrian Legg. That was definitely right up at the top of performances I've seen. Not only is he a great guitar player, but he's also very funny.

Yeah. Mainly, I wish I could see them in a small club venue. I have tons of early recordings of them and they were really great. Very raw, energetic stuff. I can't stand later recordings (live appearances, etc.) aside from a song that doesn't require a lot vocally (which is what he limits himself to).

Have you heard Apple Venus Volume 1? I think it's one of their best albums. Yeah, it's not energetic like the early stuff (Black Sea is one of my favorites) but it's really well-crafted pop.

Monterey '67.

I sent my sister the DVD of Monterey Pops for her birthday. When she called to thank me I told her, hey, don't feel bad that you had just got your license in '67 and I was eight. We lived in LA and could have driven up in a few hours to see it.

But what's the point of fretting over that now....?

I just ordered the Apple Box set, which includes 1 & 2 plus the demos and reunites the two albums (it also includes a link to download two new songs, although in MP3 format. grr). I've scratched mine enough to where it warrants another buy. I am of the opinion that XTC evolved to the level that most bands simply can't go and Andy paid for his insane dedication to his music. I have all the Fuzzy Warbles stuff and am patiently awaiting volumes 7 and 8. I'm a demo whore, what can I say.

I highly suggest Transistor Blast, if you can find it. Great live material. Best album though would have to be Wasp Star simply because I can give it to anyone and it pulls them right in. Musically, probably the Apple Box combination or Nonsuch. They simply get better and better.

Stevie Ray or Jimi

I've seen a few shows but these 3 stand out:

- Bob Seger and Mitch Ryder/Detroit Wheels at the Lakeview High School Auditorium, St. Clair Shores Michigan, 1974

- Elton John at Hill Auditorium, Ann Arbor Michigan, 1979. One hour of just Elton with a grand piano followed by another hour of Elton with percussionist Ray Cooper.

- Carlos Santana at the Fox Theater, Detroit Michigan, late 1980's.

Had a chance to see the Beatles, but turned it down. Not a big fan, but wish I had gone.
