IEMs reshelled into Custom Molds $80 in the USA (TripleFi 10, SE530, etc.) from FISHER HEARING

I need a bit of advice on what my next move should be.

My Shure E500s have recently bit the dust; the wire over the ear is totally exposed and beginning to turn green. I'm worried that entire casing will separate from the wire if I continue to use them much more. So in my opinion I have two options, either get them reshelled/recabled into customs or, I've heard that you can return your busted E500s and $240 for the new SE535s. Which option would you guys choose?

By the time you pay for the reshell, new cables and one time shipping, you have spent over $140. If you need refits or you get a more expensive cable then you are even closer to the price Shure is offering for the 535's. Your reshells may sound better or worse than the original; there is no telling how the sound may change.

I'd get the replacement 535's from Shure and you'd be able to sell them to break even if you don't like them. Assuming you're a Shure fan, I'm Shure you'll like them.

We are currently working on the technology to tune the monitors. we have the couplers and the machine to create the pink and white noises. I'm not really familiar with the mechanics part, but you are more than welcome to call and talk to the owner Kim Fisher. Tuning can be making sure that the resistors and chips are good, adjusting the tubing length and position of the drivers in the shell. Also checking for clogged filters, and replacing them when necessary.

The shells are made with an acrylic material, we hand make all of the colors here. And yes our costs are cut because we have been making shells for 20 some years. We make about 30 monitors a day. Our process is like no other lab. The finishing process is what takes the longest, buffing and shining.  We also make Hearing aids and our own monitors. So this remolding isn't our bread and butter. This is a service that we are offering to people who want the feel and look of a custom, with a stock in ear monitor that they purchased. The First person to have this idea was Rumi, the guy that started this thread, we didnt even know if it was possible or profitable to take the chance. But after two and a half years of the hundreds of remolds we have done, we and our loyal customers are satisfied with it's result.

This service really is for the person having trouble with a stock monitor that just isn't as loud as it used to be, or there cord busted on their SE530s.

Email me if you have further questions i would be more than happy to answer them. Or you can call and talk :)

You think Fisher and other labs that offer reshelling service capable of turning the sound to match the original signature universal such as the TF10?  Do you tune IEMs?  How is the tuning process done?  What type of equipment do you use?  Is there a mini loudness meter there to measure dB at all hearing frequency ranges?

Sent my UM2's out today ! I will be posting pics and overall results soon with opinions on artwork and general stuff. I was very confused about what to do about remolding I looked at Kozee/1964 and Alien as soon as I E-mailed Kaysen confusion gone ! They just seem like they really care so that's why I went with them ! I have a lot of high profile shows in the future and I will be using these a bunch so we shall see how things turn out stay tuned !

Brilliant service. I returned my JH13 reshells for a tweak - just got them back free of charge. They fit like a treat on both sides. So happy with them and delighted with Fisher Hearing - thoroughly recommended.

At the end of the day, "tunning" to achieve the same sound quality that a non-custom product produces at the point that the sound meets the ear drum, is not possible.  PERIOD.  One could theoritically match the sound quality at the "sound port" but a custom IEM sound port is located closer to the ear drum than what a non-custom product is.  Any time you change the dimensions of a chamber, you change the sound quality....  simple physics really & there is no way one could "test" and accomadate for each and every individuals "unique" shape of the ear canal (chamber).  The distance from the sound port, to the ear drum, the turns and bends the "reflection" points of each indivudual, cannot be accounted for by any of the test equipment out there.

Quality control, in order to insure that the CIEMs are "essentially" balanced, is a great idea and as I stated before I think UE does this, and if you watch the 1964 Ears video, I believe they state they do test at every build. (again to QC not to tune)

I am not trying to discourage any one from doing a re-mold, especially if a repair is needed and the warranty is period is over on their non-custom product....   I'm just stating the reality of things, and I think "full disclosure" should be made.

That said, thanks for posting "Lil' Fish" & I offer a "Thank You" for Kim Fisher and his team for offering a great service at a great price. I hope your business doubles in the near future.

I suspect your experience is the norm. The real issue is those that expect the SAME sound quality as their non-custom product produced...  It is just not going to happen, "similar" yes...  but the "exact" same is physically impossible.

If you are willing to live with that (I am) then customizing your non-custom product is right for you.

^Agree with you, but I believe most folks (myself included), if not all can't tell the difference if exact isn't accomplished.   Same thing applies with all those frequency graphs that folks purely rely on and nothing else when it's humanely impossible to detech specific areas of the frequency.  This expensive hobby has a tendency to cast its perception and laughs in front of your face while doing it.  The sad part is, it gets worse as you grow older.

^ this is exactly correct.

This service was started for people who use the stock buds, but want a pro feel.
The sound will change because you are changing the entire case and fitting it better to your individual ear. Also changing the tubing lengths.
If sound is what your worried about and cant have it the exact same, then you need to go pro. With any company it will be the same answer. All of the "remold" companies will tell you whatever you want to hear for your business, but in the end, it is exactly the same. Your still changing major parts. Which is the casing and tubing.

I choose to not tell you what you want to hear just to get your business, I don't want anyone who is uncomfortable from the beginning.  So I choose to tell the truth.

     Yes Lil' Fish

To reiterate, it does not matter who converts a non-custom to a custom product, there will be an "acoustic" change to the final product, this is just an inherent issue to the task at hand.

NO company can avoid this with or without fancy testing equipment.

The left ear could fit a little looser a very slight uncomfortable fit at times. My ear might have to adjust to having something foreign in it. But the seal is good and they sound great ! Artwork is cool the left ear has some little specks of white debris on the red as you can see but I guess what can you ask for at such a cheap price ! Over all they did a good job !
