Based on my enjoyment of The Mars Volta's De-Loused at the Comatorium, I've recently picked up a few At the Drive-in CDs (This Station is non-operational, in/Casino/Out, Relationship of Command) and fell in love at first listen. Definitely got kick! Also been lovin' Opeth and Muse recently. For the more old-school rock I like Jethro Tull - though they do many flavors of rock over their career.

You NEED to hear Skinny Grin by Acoustic Ladyland. Trust me.

God yes. Such an amazing album - a crazy combination of rock, punk, and jazz; yet the songs are great and not gimmicky at all. These people can play.

SickMouthy - do you read Stylus? That's the only way I ever would have heard of this album.

Heh, well now I'm embarrassed - this is what I get for not checking your profile. Nice work writing that glowing review for Skinny Grin, Nick - I hope a lot of people have heard it and love it. At the very least, everyone I've played it for certainly has.

BTW, nice work in general over at Stylus. I really enjoy reading your stuff - the 'Imperfect Sound Forever" articles were particularly well done, and hopefully brought some of the outrage over here at head-fi to a wider audience.

One more thing: you hate digipaks?? What the hell? Man, those are the only things that keep me buying CDs. If something is packaged in cardboard, I am instantly more inclined to buy it. Jewel case = generic.

Fashion Nugget - Cake is great.

SelfTitled by Fall of Troy is incredibly energetic

OK Go is kinda fun sometimes, a little poppier; Ben Folds (Five) / Hot Hot Heat

Silent Alarm - Bloc Party is brilliant

I second mars volta, muse, death cab/postal service

Nirvana is classic.

The Beta Band and Tub Ring is incredibily weird, but sometimes it fits the bill exactly if you're in certain incredibily weird moods. The Three E.P.s and Fermi Paradox, respectively, are the only albums I've heard from the two, very good.

Good luck!
