Here is the PB5 next to my green Valentinum case for my Max.

I think I don't like these Interconnects they gave with the Pb5. It is giving me that glitchy/etched feeling I associate with Silver-coated copper.

Though it seems to be made by two different unknown materials and probably not what I said.

Or more likely my PB5 device just needs to be broken in for a few more power cycles.

I'm sure it's on the thread somewhere but how should I set the 320 MAX Ti?

According to the last picture of this post: https://www.head-fi.org/threads/got...s-and-stepped-attenuator.971544/post-17944618

You'll want to use the Gain-3.

However, people on here have been saying you can use a higher gain without having a noticeable-audible clipping.
Thanks. I think I had it set to Gain-1 most of the audition. Unfortunately, the audition was cut short because the PB5 ran out of power.

BTW, has anyone compared using LO and headPhone Out?

Of the 320MAX right?

In my experience, the LO is noticeably colder sounding than the head out.

I think the internal amp of the 320M is leans warm, offsetting the coldness of the internal DAC.

Well, one has an amp, the other doesn’t!
If you’re plugging the headphone out to the PB5 you’re double amping. Might sound ok, but I personally never double amp.

Any more comparisons here with different alternative sources into PB5?
- N7 vs D16 for example some more opinions?
- I am yet finding RU7 astonishing very good holding its own ground and giving a really enjoyable portable 1-bit source not letting me miss much actually, its depth and full bodied sound with some extra sparcle up top make it a smooth but still interesting listen
- D16 for me is analogue but yet technical capable with very good smooth tuning and wide stage lacking maybe the last portion of depth compared to TOTL gear I remember such as N30LE for example, it's like a nice analogue reference baseline requesting to bring the connected headphones / IEMs their tuning into the scene and not trying to drastically change the curve by boosting Bass or Treble like other DAPs are trying to in one or another way

I don’t think the D16 lacks in depth or width at all. Unless you compared the D16 phones out VS D16+External amp like PB5.

I don’t see how the N30LE can compare to the D16 in technical terms, unless it is the MSRP

Technically speaking, the N30LE has

0.0005% THD and D16 is 0.00014% which the D16 is many times greater

780mW @32 ohms VS D16 with 1125mW @32 ohms

Now, the noises 4.0uV where as the D16 is 0.6uV

Channel separation or crosstalk, should be the greatest factors here where as

110dB for N30LE and D16 is 131dB

See pictures for references. You can pull all these slices from official sites as well

Now, Subjectively speaking, that is another matter and I have zero experiences with the N30LE. I am sure it sounds great, but given all of my experiences from DS vs R2R vs Analog systems. I can not believe such performances can exist with digital music and from a little device like the D16 at all.

It's surely a bit Apples and Oranges but DX320 Max is also DS, isn't it?
So on which level is it playing vs D16?
I am considering N30LE on that level but with different tuning.
Imho AKM TOTL DAPs are going in a similar tuning direction as 1-bit stuff, sounding less digital, smoother and more analogue to my ears.
It's not the same thing though as also N7 isn't the same as N30LE.
And yep, regarding these Specs I have had Topping Desktop gear which was praised to heaven with again much better specs but returned these as subjectively these haven't brought me the same enjoyment as the dedicated mobile implementations I had the pleasure to experience.
I am mostly using these for IEMs though, keeping dedicated desktop gear for Overears
