i just discovered that at medium gain my dx90 can drive my hd800's really well!  

I can confirm this. Drove my HD800 nicely, but drove the T1 ver2 or ver1 BEAUTIFULLY! I usually strap my iDSD and iCAN to my DX90, but even straight out of the DX90 both headphones sounded awesome. And it was even better on HI-gain with the T1s. No hiss/hum at all. Just inky black backgrounds.

Even when I linked-up my Schiit Audio ASGARD2 to the end of the stack, (EDIT: REPLACING the iCAN in the audio chain, not double-amping.) they were still silent with the gain switch on HI, so I'm not surprised at all that they perform so brilliantly straight out of the DX90. Both my HD-650 and HD-800 hum noticeably when my ASGARD2 is in HI-gain. I'm assuming because of the Sennheiser 300 vs Beyerdynamics 600 ratings.

Been hearing marvelous things about this little toy lately. Definitely planning to get one in the next 6 months or so - is it fully able to drive Sennheiser HD650 or HD800 properly? I would suppose so, but I had to ask nonetheless.
 
Has anyone tried it with one of those phones? Impressions would be greatly appreciated, guys.
