i got my dx90 open and found out that the pin is very short. maybe at the same level of the cap.
so that's no way the pin can touch the outer plate:(

Check my other post! The pin stayed inside, because rubbed against the plastic !

I think there's no way it can protrude through since it is at the same height of the cap.
I'll just leave that

Same issue with my unit, the pin didn't come out enough. But looking straight from above, noticing it was
wonky and touched a hole side. I DID NOT widen the hole, i pushed the spring pin STAND with LITTLE force
to the middle. This made +0.5mm straight standing expansion. Less force is here more or the pin breakes.
The printed circuit board ( were the pin existst on ) is screwed by three screws. Loosen the 2 screws at the
pin side a little bit elevates the board +0.5mm more.

My pin head was not really round at all, it scratches the Battery Backplate quiet alone, so no scratchin for
contuction needed.

Can anyone upload a tutorial video of this entire process to YouTube or at least post a comprehensive, step-by-step pictorial guide?  I don't trust myself to do this based on text descriptions alone and if there's even a chance that this will improve SQ or at least extend the life of the player then I want to make sure mine is properly fitted.

On the DX90 if you take off the back you will see a silver strip. This silver strip contacts some grounding tape. This completes the grounding for the back so no pin is needed. The DX90 was modified this way. The pin is there because it was used in the DX50 but is not used on the DX90. The tape on the removable back is conductive and completes the ground.

I hope this helps.

So, for those who did cut the tape allowing the pin to come through and touch the backplate - it will still work as a grounding pin, correct?

Can you explain a little more what the ground is actually for?

Why it needs to touch the backplate?

Thanks.

Dear Paul.. So for user who using extended battery without the back plate the dx90 is not grounded. Will the electronic suffer any problems?

Yes the pin would still work in grounding. The grounding works to drain static and to ground for RFI. By doing this the effects of this negated.

There are no problems with using the extended battery. The electronics will not suffer for this.

Paul - any news on the FW update?

Cheers,
Tim

It would be at the end of the week. I am also waiting for people to get back from their holiday. Mass movement during this holiday. I don't know if you have ever been here but the roads are getting filled with cars. The trains get packed more than usual during this holiday.

Thanks for the reply!  Sounds like some good old fashioned organized chaos over there.

The end of the week can't arrive soon enough - looking forward to the update.

Cheers,
Tim
