They're made of very much the same materials for the casing, however, DX80 takes on a more modern appearance with its stretched screen and curved edges.

When you look at them side by side DX90/DX50 design is beginning to show some years.

Take that DAMN sticker off!!!

Comparison shot to the DX90?  DX80 looks much bigger for some reason.

That was going to be my next question, so thanks for the helpful pic!

For those who have low impedance IEMs, do you notice any hissing?

i just got my DX80 , as a unit it feels like a lighter/slimmer/longer/more luxurious and well built version of the DX90 (which i also owned)

there are 2 micro SD card slots , an optical/coaxial output port , phone out port , line out port

included in the pack , are

a warranty / serial number card

2 screen protectors (it has already one installed , with the ibasso logo)

a ''quick start guide' manual with some basic instructions/pics in English/Chinese

a silicone protective case

a usb transfer/charge cable

a burn-in cable (same as the dx90)

a coaxial cable

i am at work now so i can not listen (unless i want to be fired) , will load up some files and get listening in the next hours.

more impressions to follow.

  Thank you for the impressions!
How's the battery life? I'm worried because the DX80 uses a relatively smaller battery compared to most recently released players.

I haven't timed exactly how many hours I've clocked up on DX80 battery wise. My unit arrived fully charged, I can say I've spent many hours with the unit yesterday (probably 4-5 overall on/off) over the course of an afternoon and my unit is still at 63%

Its not resemblant of the DX90 which likes to chew a lot of battery. I would be interested in others run times.

Because I'm a folder browse only guy I don't really tinker with playlists, but it appears no you cannot name them? When I added my first empty playlist folder it was called 'playlist1'. From there you can tap the album art at the now playing screen and a '+' appears in a semi transparent drop down in the top left corner. When you press '+' you then select which playlist folder to put it inside (I hope that's right?)

Maybe someone can do a picture tutorial for you as I'm flying on my phone atm.

Battery % on the screen, might be worth it just for that.

64GB card took about 5 mins to scan.

will do some preliminary listening , do we know if this player needs a 'burn-in' period ? i see it has a ''burn-in'' cable included....

the tactile buttons seem more easy to use as well , i always had to press hard the REW/PLAY/FF buttons in my dx90

in the dx80 they have space between them and it is much easier to press them

edit : on completely first listen , i think the bass hits harder than DX90 while retaining the DX90 clarity.

the soundstage may be nearer to me compared to the DX90

very clear sound , i do not like 'veiled' sound , no veil for now

the sound seems similar to DX90 , only more beefed up in the lows(bass hits harder) and mids(more intimate soundstage may be responsible here)

highs are dx90 level , listening with my K3003 (which are the detailed kind) and i have no sibilance (i never had though any sibilance with dx90/zx2)

listening to a vinyl rip (which are always sounding lower than a cd)  with LOW GAIN and VOLUME 85/150

i will try to simply write whatever thoughts pop up while listening , so maybe stream of consciousness post will emerge.

i will wait for the 100 hour mark , but the sound is fine out of the box.

The burn in cable takes the place of headphones so you can continue to have the DX80 on repeat sending a signal through the system and in to a load. This allows for the capacitors to form and for everything else to stabilize and the player to sound its best without using headphones producing sound. There are two resistors in the burn in cable for the right and left channel. It is a convenience if you choose to use it.

It's still not possible to order it directly (which I chose with my DX50 & DX90) at the iBasso site => will it also be available over there soon?
