iBasso DX80 Bug Thread - Post Any Firmware Bugs/Issues Here

Well, I guess I just found the solution to the artwork problem...

Up until now, after ripping CDs to FLAC I saved high resolution JPGs (roughly 100 through 500 KB) of the respective covers using the following naming scheme "Neil_Young_1972_Harvest".
Then I used the resulting file to write the covers to the ID3 tags using xACT (under Mac OS X).
Just to make sure (I read something about naming the JPGs "folder" here) I copied the JPGs twice and renamed them to "cover" and "folder" respectively, all within the respective album folders.
You now the result, the DX80 did not show artwork in the menus or "Now Playing".

Some minutes ago I had an idea. Maybe just being in the tags does not suffice for the DX80 to find the JPGs and it still needs a certain name. So I deleted the original images bound into the tags and replaced them using my JPGs named "folder". For this I used another (nice and lightweight) tag editor called "Kid3".

Long story short; now it works and I am a happy camper. ;)

Only one cover does not show yet but it is very large (above 1 MB), so that should be the reason.

Slightly off-topic: If you are looking for a nice FLAC player under Mac OS X; VOX is very lean but still beautiful and sounds great. Highly recommended...

So, if I understand you correctly - you had to change the name of the album art filename to "folder.jpg" and then re-insert them into the audio files (tag) header? I would have thought that the original name of the jpg wouldn't matter once it was embedded.

You understood me correctly. I was surprised as well. But as I was running out of ideas, I gave this strange thing a shot et voilà... it works, at least in my case.

Nevertheless, I hope that iBasso fixes this weird issue in future firmware versions.

I use 2 200gb cards with DSD on one and other formats on the other. Sometimes an album doesn't show up and all I do is go into the folder mode and tap on the album, as they always show up there, and it scans that one album and now it is listed with everything else. This is also a great way to update files if you add a few albums but don't want to scan the entire card again, which I don't want to and now after a few seconds of scanning the new albums, you are ready to go. I use sensitive IEM's, have normal hearing to a little above normal in ability to hear, and I don't get any pops or other sounds but get a very slight bump, when pausing and starting but it is so low that it doesn't matter and isn't much different from other daps that I can hear a "click" on when stopping and starting a song etc.

Thanks for the reply - I did try folder mode but I don't think it's infallible; one album in particular did not show up but did on a second scan. Whatever, still seems to be a bug re scanning SD 1 and 2 together or separately.

I had some tag issues and used a tag cleaner around a half a year ago. Since then I don't have problems also it has been suggested to use CleanMyDrive2 and I have used that and now keep it on my computer as there was junk on a number of my cards that it got rid of. Now all of my cards work very well.

Having had problems getting the DX80 to load the songs properly off my second card I replaced it with the most recent Sandisk 128gb and formatted it as FAT32.  This worked perfectly and the >16K songs across two cards now play perfectly.   It seems the card makes a big difference.

I don't have any other major issues with the player now.

For those with artwork not loading the industry standard is 500x500 pixels and it shouldn't be more than 300DPI.  If you're creating a large file way above around 100KB then this is far beyond what most DAPs can render and all the quality will be lost.   It is pointless having this resolution on the web too as the quality of images that can be shown online is very low.   I always embed my artwork into the track using MediaMonkey and then leave the master file in the folder as cover.jpg.   This always seems to work across different situations and all my tracks show up on the DX80.

I created and used to run a legal download music service so had to deal with all these issues for multi-platform support.  The issue of artwork naming isn't unique to iBasso the two standard file names supported for file directory scans are folder or cover.   It's worth doing a little reading around before attributing these things to iBasso - things such as art work resolution, file naming of art work have been known for a nearly couple of decades and are well documented online.

Thanks
Mark

FW 1.3.0 : gapless still has a slight "click".  Sometimes the music can mask the click but the click is still there.
FW 1.3.0: the playback slider is (sometimes) unresponsive or I haven't mastered the proper place to touch.

Ooops! FW 1.3.3  is out!

FW1.3.3: seems to have resolved the click.  However, there is still a very slight audible noise when the track switches.

Is it possible to reduce the contrast or gamma of the displayed embedded image (.m4a file both AAC or ALAC)?  Colors are just a bit washed out and near black IRE 7-ish is too bright, being closer to a mid-gray than black.

Hey I found that my dx80 skipping one track, first time I noticed my dx80 got sparkling and then song changed, secondly I manually select that song and yet it still changed (in middle of track but without sparkling) could it caused by memory card or the file?

What card are you using? I have a number of cards and have never had any of these issues. Mostly I use Sandisk but I also have Samsung and PNY but I would say 90% of the 20 or so cards are Sandisk from 32 to 200gb. I have used a file cleaner and now use CleanMyDrive2 and things run smoothly.

Curious what format you are applying to your Sandisk cards - I have a 200 gb Sandisk formatted to exFAT and still get the occasional snap, crackle and pop.  Wouldn't think FAT32 or a lower class card would work better, but am willing to try.
