iBasso DX80 Bug Thread - Post Any Firmware Bugs/Issues Here

Jul 15, 2016 at 4:44 AM Post #1,126 of 1,489
I really like the sound of the latest fw, however I am having problem with gapless.  It's all over the place.  Sometimes it chops part of the next track, sometimes it goes back to the previous track.  I am in the process of re-copying all my files to see if it helps.  But I just roll back to fw 1.4.2 and gapless work just fine.

I really hope re-copying will solve the problem as I really like the sound of this fw.

Anyone else having problems with gapless?

OK - I've only just had a chance to install this.

On the plus side, 'Artist' sort order in the database seems to be fixed (on the assumption you can get a clean scan)

Unfortunately, I can confirm, as reported by others, that the default play order when playing from directory seems to be alphabetic on title, which is obviously an unhelpful default since most albums then play out of sequence without lots of effort. I assume it's using the tag information for this, rather than using any sort of ordering based on filename? Perhaps, if so, it could default to using the track number embedded, taking into account the various standard number schemes?

I've not tested the fileset which caused the database scan to crash previously, but it sounds like it's still crashing out for some people. I think there needs to be a database logging option in advanced settings which logs all the files it doesn't like while scanning to a text file on (say) sd card 1. That way, the scan should complete, and we'd not all be searching for needles in haystacks for the file(s) which are breaking the scan.

I'm going to have to fall back to 1.4.2, since searching by 'Artist' in the database doesn't really work for a large part of my collection, and playing from the directory is currently sorting unhelpfully.

They fix one thing and break another.

Well I cannot say I have an issue with gapless itself, from both directory mode and database it works.
However from both directory mode and database use, it will cut the last 6 seconds of a track if this one is the last of its list.

in directory mode : that means every file alone in its directory will have it's last 6 seconds cut off.
or the last alphabetically title in an album folder (if played using title default)
or the last track of the album folder (if played in album sorting)

in database mode : depending of which sorting you choosed you will see a playlist created (now playing)
if your track is the last one, it will have its last 6 seconds cut off.
very annoying if you have many singles from artists.

Now I have time to write it down better: go to directory, choose an album, open it and start playing first song. By default, next song when you press fwd button will be next in alphabetical order taken from tag, not from file name. In fact my songs all. begin with 01 02 03 etc.
To get back to ''next song in folder'' you have to go to Now playing screen and tap ''album''.
By default it now sorts by ''title''
This happens only in directory mode.

I performed factory reset to get rid of the library, then, after a fresh boot, I've made my usual settings (gapless on, screen off after 5 minutes), then "Directory"->folder with an album etc. as you have written... It works correctly for me! "Forward" jumps to the next track of the allbum, "Now Playing" screen shows correct track order.

Tried on a few albums (Rolling Stones "Singles collection", Kiss "Hotter Than Hell", if it matters), on a FAT32 and exFAT formatted cards - no problem! Tried to use Forward button, or listen and wait for the next track, with or without looking into the "Now Playing" - no problem!

But: if I start playing from Directory, and then "Rescan library", it may (or may not!) end up with incorrect order of the currently played album. This is because the rescan invalidates the playlist created when you started playback. Not graceful, but understandable.

Firmware 1.5.2L0 here.

I will try. I also use your latest fw. Thanks mate!

Even if your result would be still the same (alphabetical order): my experience shows that iBasso didn't change the sorting order intentionally! Instead, if different users have different experience, it's a "glitch" that can be hard to reproduce and then to fix

Or, it's just me who has a permanent glitch that all works as designed and expected

yes, it is a glitch due to corrupted database.
but for some people like me, it has been impossible to have a correct database.
all the bugs I have mentionned (cut off, track order, settings savings) are related to the database.
from a fresh factory reset, it works fine.

@Paul
isn't it possible to cancel scanning or implement an option to have the player to work without using the database?
I cannot enjoy my music with all those bugs, I would simply browse directory and that'd save me.

Wait, did you perform a full scan aftet factory reset or started playing in directory mode?

I started playing from Directroy right after the factory reset and two settings changes, as I wrote. I've performed "Rescan Library" later, after all the mentioned tests around Directory playback.

I wonder if that's why it worked for you and not for those of us suffering the bug. My standard approach has been to load the firmware using the batch tool, which essentially performs a factory reset. I then set gapless to on, filter to slow, and gain to low, kick off the scanning of both SD cards and come back later...

So I am seeing the problem of playing in alphabetical order after the full sd card scan, without asking anything else of the player while it's scanning. Since it does an on-the-fly scan when you use a directory that's not already in the database, perhaps it does those differently?

Edit: I see pholcus got there first...

The source code for this player isn't available anywhere is it, as I'd be very tempted to go and see if I could troubleshoot it ...

Ok. But if you don't do a scan after factory reset, no database is built, thus no chance if using album, artist genre playing mode.

I just tried to play from Directory after a full scan. Here you are right: when I start playing a track, the player shows its number according to the alphabetical order. So, the problem exists only with playback from Directory after the media scan.

But it has a workaround: having the library, just start playing from Artist or Album!

I was worried if I'm affected by this problem, because sometimes I listen from a USB HDD, which can't be scanned (and I don't want to scan 2 or 3TB HDD anyway!). But my experiment shown that in this particular case, the play order is album order, which is good. For SD-cards that are scanned, I don't care

And, just in case: even without full media scan, once you started to play a track from a folder via Directory, that folder is scanned, and its content then becomes accessible via Artist or Album.

I've got a couple issues that only appear when my library has been scanned. As these issues do not occur when the SD card has not been scanned, I assume nothing is wrong with my files.
These problems were seen both with the 1.42L0 and 1.52L0 firmware.
I use a single 128GB Kingston SD card.

  • Playlists stop working.
My playlist files are synced to a folder named "Playlist" on the SD card via MusicBee.
Tapping on an M3U file will start a scan, but the playlist menu will remain empty. In addition, tapping the "+" button in the playlists menu will do nothing.
  • Unable to play podcasts
My podcasts are synced to a folder named "Podcasts" on the SD card via MusicBee.
When I tap on a podcast, from the directory menu, the file is scanned, then an empty Now Playing screen (with the black and white photo of the trees) is displayed.
I also cannot find podcasts within any of the menus.

Has anyone else run into these issues, or better yet, anyone know how to fix these issues?
