I agree with you 100%. The amplifier affects the sound signature the most. That's why I also thought that the 320 with Rohm and in connection with Amplifier 12 EX/EXN is at least on the same technical level as the M 9 or maybe even a bit higher. I'm not talking about the sound signature, whether warm, transparent, natural or bright. That remains to be seen.

Not to mention when it comes to audio, the diminishing returns shoots up once you reach the $1k mark.
DX300 already reaches the peak of diminishing returns for DAPs. While others might find significant difference between DX300 and N8ii, to me that significant difference is maybe only 5% 😂
It is harder to measure auditory than visual differences. I can easily notice the difference btw 1080p and 4K, however I’ll be hard pressed to hear the difference btw 16 bit and 24 bit recordings.

If given the choice though, I would pick FiiO M17 as the best valued DAP/transportable out there.

After another couple hours of comparisons, the M9 is going back. The critical moment was when I switched the filter on the dx300 to 1 which is a standard reference one. It made the dx300 sound so close to the M9 that I couldn't tell them apart when didn't look at which i was listening to. I really wanted to keep the M9 as i loved it's design, screen and the sound. But i don't need two daps which sound almost the same with my iems. Let's see what the 320 will bring to the table.

Anyone know why I am getting 192kHz when using Roon? It's a 44.1 track..with no upsampling in Roon.

Yeah, since the rewrite the Roon app will always use the maximum sample rate provided by the system.
There is still no bypass to have it bitperfect, the Roon developers seem to be clueless or don't care about Android at all.
Multiple threads in the Roon forum proove that and all Android-DAPs suffer the same problem, except it seems A&K.
ah...nevermind... Sad!

Patiently waiting for the DX320 as well. The M17 is ginormous...more transportable than portable. I like the amp swap capability and amp mods, ROHM DACs, feature set and portability of the DX320 while still being pocketable. Also hoping the pricing is competitive too. Home run if iBasso gets this right.

Too be fair, DX300 footprint is almost similar, 0.6cm taller but 1.1cm narrower and 1cm slimmer.

True. And just to be clear I think FiiO makes great devices. I was just late to the DX300 party though and missed my chance to get a NIB unit so I decided to pass on it and wait for the DX320 instead. Fingers crossed.

Ok so thinking about purchasing one of the Topping Dx5 all in one for my office setup. If I wanted to use dx312 as source, is there an adapter so I could go 4.4mm to xlr?

Would someone mind explaining how I could best use the dx312 as source to this all in one dac/amp?

Thanks

Just thought I'd let you know I did a comparison of the DX312EXN through my stereo through two different routes
Stereo is Arcam integrated amp A85, speakers B&W CDM 1NT

- route 1 using a DJ30A 4.4mm to 3.5 mm adapter in the LO, to 3.5mm connected to 2xphono/rca plugs into the amp
- route 2 playing through MediaMonkey on Windows 10 over bluetooth using a Audioengine B1 BT5 receiver connected to the amp with phono/rca

I couldn't hear a difference, FWIW. As I've said before I don't hear the subtle differences in many things that others apparently do.
