Well I have sad news R8 is sold and dx300 is not on hands so direct a/b won't be possible only via my memory

Ok so may I ask the following about this DAP.

I am considering upgrading from a HiBy R6 Pro SS to either of the following

The ibasso dx300 OR the HiBy R8

Will use it for streaming MQA on the go with offline cached files from Tidal

The main reason for the upgrade is the better battery life along with the bigger screen but the upgraded audio is obviously important.

Advice on which one to go for appreciated as I'm so confused about which one to choose.

Depends what signature you like R8 and dx300 both are top dap solutions. Each has their own strengths.

I know R8 is the most natural and life like sounding of the bunch. Plays full 16x unfolding MQA and super fast too!

Ok going to wait for the DX300. I like the idea of the changeable amps as well. Plus the screen on the DX300 looks lush

Well I like the M8 but decided to give dx300 a chance as everyone been trying to convince me that this is not the same ibasso like from the dx200 that I had back then.
I disliked it highly...

Giving a new chance as ibasso work hard and they have my respect.

Buy R8 first. Sell it later if you don’t like it and get the DX300 instead. The wait for DX300 that is ordered now could be for weeks.

BTW, can anyone test and post here few words about playing MQA on DX300?

Works great with Tidal, unfolds to 8x as advertised (where R8 unfolded 16x but really, I don't hear a difference either with M8 playing regular 88Khz or 96Khz... YMMV may vary with MQA local files).

A bit early but battery life looks pretty good so far loosing not much battery while intensively downloading thousands of Tidal tracks and playing Master quality ones...

Just one quick note... I don't know if I am the only one but the case is pretty loosely adjusted... I like the feel of the DX300 without case great no slippy materials and it's astonishing how cool it remains in operation. I suspect the low heat is related to lower power consumption from the cirrus Quad DAC as highlighted by @Whitigir (was it 4 x 26mW ?)

There are many good options out there, as my signature says(it applies to DAPs too) none of the TOTL sucks, it is all about the signature that checks your boxes. SP2000 did just that. From the UI to SQ. I had the R8 and now the M8 and DX300. I agree, it will be interesting.

I did a few A/B spl volume matched with DX160/220 amp8EX/ 300 last night.

4.4mm balanced (3.5mm SE to come soon).

seems quite the hybrid of the two in looks and sound and probably Max - (not a/b’d yet).
I imagine that its a amp8/amp8EX/ Max type combo sound. But with have to do 220 amp8EX/Max/300 check

my notes are at home but it was fairly close with subtle differences.

Its ahead of the dx160 (i had forgotten how good it is - i have not listened to it for a while).

i will do some listening with external amps to faux imagine what it may be like with different amp modules - as any impressions are of course stock amp - these are often universal pleasers - which is sensible.

a few more hours to get on the unit. But so far so good.
