yeah. It was always a separate ‘transportable’ unit with no swappable amps.

Late last year i had a listen.
- don’t bother asking my thoughts. Noisy show, a short time limit (the reservation note says 12:00-12:30 - but that was for three people), not many music tracks i wanted to try. Inconclusive due to lack of the above. No obvious flaws or complaints about the device though.

Can you pair it with the DX220? Would there be a reason to?

I know it's meant to be something you transport to a location and use it but I'm choosing to ignore that part and just focus on the portable part. If this is an upgrade on the 220, then I'm interested even if it's meant for a different purpose.

There was not enough time, show conditions, no matching music to my dap etc etc. i am not even sure if i used a spl app to make sure the volume was about the same.

Its a pity.

that was last November 2019 and i am sure they have had plenty of time to work in it even more.

Having had several daps all at the same time iBasso, FiiO, Opus etc and volume matching them using a decent spl meter the sound resolution and quality does from my experience follow the natural progression of where each dap is placed in the companies line up. Makes sense.

Sorry i have nothing concrete to add. It would not be truthful of me.

usually if i am at home i use several iems and headphones and also several daps plus a spl meter to a headphone switcher box to get to the bottom of a products ‘real’ sound beyond my bias or imagination.

if the final version tops DX220 with Amp8EX then i would certainly use it on a commute myself without reservation. Even though it is bigger and heavier. Some would probably use it more at home.

I was planning on getting a DX220 to replace my DX200 but I may just wait and get this. The size should not bother me as I use my DX200 in the office (now home office) or when travelling on an airplane.

Ive been tossing around buying a modified 228 or waiting for the 220max. Its a question of cost. I read it was coming out around $2000 US then I read $1800 US. $1800 US still comes up to 2505 Canadian. Its all up in the air untill Ibasso comes up with a final price. The wait is killing me.

... from early this year, our fellow enthusiast from Asia, from a pvt chat mentioned this as really dangerous! i believe him, as much as i trust in his spot on reviews. Ignorance is NOT bliss, folks. For our own safety, Masks, gloves & social distancing is imperative. As well as keeping indoors isolated when there's really nothin' to do out there.
Of course a lot of us know this already...
