Yeah, I do not have any problem when playing with my mobile phone. Only on the DX160. Let me try to install the 2.37 version.

Do you plan to get the DX300? There are many other models such as the Shalning M8 and the Hiby R8. Not sure which one to get.

I can't afford it now and probably I don't own gear that needs such quality DAPs. Actually I'm not a fan of the DX300 design, it looks a smartphone on steroids. Of those 3 probably I would pick the M8 just for esthetics alone. It has the oldest platform and SoC but I really like the classic design.

Anyway, lesson learned. For now on I'll try to only buy DAPs from brands that can guarantee updates. The ZX507 gets monthly updates. DX160 last update is from August.

As an update, there will be a firmware update coming. I don't have the specifics at this time.

iBasso Stay updated on iBasso at their sponsor profile on Head-Fi.

@Paul - iBasso
That's good news. In the meantime I have come to terms with some circumstances, such as the picky WiFi. What would be interesting, however, is that known security gaps are also fixed and the Mango Player can finally be used properly and is not just an alibi app. The only problem I have is that the DX160 sporadically boots into the 1080p screen (I prefer to use the larger 720p display), but without displaying the desktop, I then have to restart the device.
Have a nice day.

I have the exact same problem but in my case I have to a hard reboot as the screen becomes unresponsive in the 1080 resolution and only a reboot back to 720p makes it workable

I have managed to drop my DX160, and the 3.5mm output is no longer working properly. I would like to remove the back cover to assess the damage and see if it may be a simple fix. Can anyone advise me on how to remove it properly without causing any damage? Thanks in advance!! Clive

I posted in this topic earlier asking about the DX160s ability to drive the Sony Z7M2. I decided to order a player for my wife, who doesn't have demanding headphones. Tried the Z7M2 through both regular and balanced and both sounded wonderful on the DX160. The DX160 makes the Z7 dance. The soundstage is outstanding and music sounds smooth and analogue with plenty of volume to spare!

I am so impressed that I will probably buy one for myself, although still also considering the Sony 507 and iBasso DX300. To be fair though, the DX160 is such great value at $400 that I will most likely just buy it.

One question though: can anyone point me to an SPDIF cable on Amazon? I though I could just use the cable I have for my FIIO X5 but I think it's proprietary and will only work on that player. Or perhaps a suitable extension plug, since I already have the actual cable. Thanks in advance!

@siamdave
If you want to solder a 3.5mm SPDIF-to-Cinch cable yourself, build it yourself inexpensively with these two articles: Mono-Audio-Klinke 3,5mm and
75Ohm video kabel with chinch
@Rfx9123 Thanks but I'm not technical. I don't mind just buying a cable :) I currently have an extension chord for my fiio that looks like this:

https://www.aliexpress.com/i/328085...MI9Ir58uz37wIVatOWCh35_gMBEAMYASAAEgL_hfD_BwE

It doesn't work on the ibasso though. Not sure if it's a user error, but I do remember reading somewhere that the cable will ony work on FIIO. Can anyone point me to something similar on amazon or aliexpress? Or am I doing something wrong and should the cable work?

I have found that adaptors like that don't work for me either. I experimented to find the right working cable setup and have come to the conclusion that cables like what you listed won't don't work for me.

I have (still) the Fiio X5 (first gen) and the X3 II, and they both come with coax adaptor cables. Looking at the tips, they are obviously different pinouts. The cable for the X5 doesn't work for the X3 II and vise versa'. Have a look at this page to find the differences I am referring to.

The funny thing is that the second adaptor is what works for the DX160, but is contrary to what Fiio describes on that page:

Because the X3 2nd gen, X5 2nd gen, x5 3rd gen X7 and X7MKII use the same port for line output and coaxial digital output, we have bundled a different coaxial digital adapter cable for these players and these players are not compatible with the adapters from the X3 1st gen and X5.

So, in summary, the second picture on that page is what works for me with the DX160 (the mono end). Then, you should just be able to buy a male/male coax cable.

Edit: It looks like you said that the X5 adaptor doesn't work? Is that the first gen X5 (the one with the mono end)? Also, keep in mind that you need to use an actual coax cable. You can't use a plain RCA cable (though they look the same). If you are using a plain RCA cable that might be your problem?! Also, maybe a silly question so please don't take offense, but you ARE switching it to SPDIF out on the DX right?
