iBasso DX100 Reference DAP - ES9018 inside

I hope that someone may have some experience with this.  I think that I remember reading some comments on it somewhere in the last 171 pages but if someone who has the DX100 can give there impressions I would be grateful.

How easy is it to use the DX100 with a library of ALAC tunes stored within itunes and using a Mac based set-up?  I have tried to use a FLAC based library before with a Cowon J3 but it is just too hard.  I find that itunes has a way better user interface and simpler music sorting process etc IMO.  Does the DX100 make this a viable option for a Mac user?

Thanks for your help.  I am trying to justify this toy.....

For those updating the firmware, it is a good idea to plug in the power adapter, or at least begin with a full battery, as running out of battery power during the firmware update is a great way to own an $800 brick!

This update is about the easiest firmware update I have ever done. Extract .img file from download, drag to DX100, disconnect USB and it does its thing. The first reboot after the update takes a loooong time.

I do not have a DX100, but since it is an Android OS based device, and based on what I have read in other threads, you put the music on the device through seeing the device as an external storage device, like a USB flash drive would appear on your mac. You just need to drag and drop the files highlighted in iTunes onto the device. This destroys the folder system created by iTunes to store your files, so whatever songs you drag onto the device will not be in seperate folders based on artist or anything, just all disordered in a large folder.

What I do not know, is how well the DX100 plays with the folder structure of iTunes, meaning that if i go into Finder (Windows Explorer on Win) and open the iTunes folder all my iTunes music is stored in, and copy and paste the folders of the artists I want on the device, if the DX100 will be okay with that format of folders with the artist name with folders of the albums by said artist which contains the audio files attempting to be played.

I'm pretty sure you'd be fine with ALAC as the critical info would be contained in the Metadata with each file.  I don't think the folder structure will matter - my guess is that it would ignore the folders and pay attention to the metadata.  I'm interested in the same subject since I'm a MAC guy as well.  I've been using FLAC files though and am weighing the option of converting my entire library to FLAC.  I haven't found FLAC to be that difficult to deal with myself.  Seems to be even more straightforward than iTunes in some ways.  The folder system is similar depending on your ripping software I guess.  The artwork is right there in the file with the music in the case of FLAC (try to find your artwork in iTunes - no it is not in the folder titled "Album Artwork").  iTunes has arguably inferior error correction compared to the more vigorous alternatives for ripping CD's like MAXX, XLD, Media Monkey, EAC, etc., many of which are using CD Paranoia for their error correction.

Ok I'm drooling right now.  A couple of questions:

I know what the Specs say but will the DX100 support cards larger than 32gb?

Also, does the file system for the card slot work seamlessly with the internal storage in terms of file management/playlists?

Thanks.

I can confirm 99.99% that after formatting the 64GB micro to fat32, it will work , just get the sandisk.

If I remember correctly you would access the external card from its own directory which will have the same options as in the internal directory (playlists, albums, artists, etc).
