$500-700 will be a good price for the western market, but that is still a very niche category 0.1% of consumers, they won't compete with Sony or Apple unless they price it at under $400.

They would carve out a new niche for themselves - The audiophile bang-for-buck sweetspot DAP. Better than $400 DAPs with $200 amps, cheaper than $800-1000 audiophile DAPs like HM-801 and the top Colorfly.

Yeah, and with 64GB+32GB they can start to compete with Sony, Zune and Apple, perhaps get 5% of total western marketshare instead of 0.1%, if the price is the same or less than Sony, Zune and Apple.

Doubt it, most of the mainstream users will see the brick sized form factor and think just because it isn't as slim as a credit card it's a hunk of Chinese manufactured junk using technology from 1989. The ignorant unwashed masses are known for judging a product based solely on whether or not it looks  cool.

If they do this right, they might just turn the whole market on it's head, making our hobby more available than it has ever been. Get a DX100 and a pair of Westone 3 or Senn HD25-1 II and bam, instant audiophilia, wherever, whenever. Visiting your brother in-law with and his new $10.000 Mark Levinson SACD player? Plug in your $600 DX100 via coax digital out, play some 24/96 FLAC and send him crying.

How does this not look cool? They should price it under $400 to compete with Sony, Apple, Zune they will become rich.

Unless, off course, parts, labour and R&D equates to more than $400

Wrong, when Sony made the first CD player, they LOST lots of money for years, negative all the way.

Same thing with the PS3, massive losses and also inject money into advertising, now of course they are very successful.  You have to put everything you can into a product and keep the price low and lose money, that's the key to success, not Colorfly $800 walnut crap.

I'm still right, selling it with loss won't make them rich. Remember, this won't make them any money from tie-in purchases like itunes does for apple and the PS3 games do for Sony.

That strategy simply does not apply to all kinds of products. Sony can do so with PS3 because once the console becomes a staple in every household, all the games and, to lesser extent, accessories will bring in the dough. What else can iBasso sell alongside DX100? They can only make money from the DAP itself.
