Is anyone here primarily using the D16 as a DAC/amp and not just as a DAC/line out? I know some early reviews had positive things to say about the amp, but curious if anyone is actually using it that way.

I go back and forth. Great sounding. Amazing dac and then to have an excellent amp as well, that isn't an afterthought, gives superb value.

Same here
D16 Amp is yet powerful.
From my listening it's more accurate, yet analogue than with PB5 and PB5 adding more stage size and some tube bloom especially in lower mids.
Both listening modes can be nice on their own depending on space (like taking only D16 for traveling) or IEM/headphone pairings or mood

Using mine strictly as a DAC/amp and loving it. I used it as a DAC I to my Lyr+ and thought it was a little too much of a good thing, so I’m actually not sure I would like it with the PB5 and the amp has more than enough juice to drive my higher-impedance buds. Very happy with it in that capacity.

I found now also Earmen Staccato, big discount now, I ordered it for 250EUR ( a year ago it was 1000,-)and will try with D16...

Some dongles have SPDIF out. SMSL also makes a small DDC (PO100) that has a coax SPDIF out. And I’m also curious about this DDHifi product:

Today really recognized a big difference USB vs Coax using my EVERSOLO DMP-A6 Master and switching back and forth.
First Coax is around 2 clicks louder than USB with connected PB5 powering ZMF VC in my Demo in high gain
2nd I found presentation to be more clear and holografic vs more laid back using USB.
Tried DC Elite as DDC from USB to Coax though lacking a correctly poled IC so it's a bit playing around with the DC Elite insertion using some 3 pole cable but can be made working.
4 pole Adapter is arriving soon for further testing. Nevertheless I recognized that the volume was playing at USB level.
So I am not sure if that solution will bring any advantages or being really comparable vs a true Coax connection end to end

Will stick to Coax for stationary listening now and due to the DC Elite experience wondering if something like a DX260 is performing on the same level as my stationary streamer rig.

Any more impressions about for example DX320 Max vs DX260 as pure Coax streamers into D16?

i also found subtle differences between usb and coaxial with 320 MAX, perhaps coaxial is cleaner. It seems that with usb the d16 battery is charge from the 320MAX.This has decided me to use coax. Also waiting for comparison between MAX and DX260

I didn't find the difference subtle using my desktop streamer but could be biased because of the volume difference which always makes me prefer the louder source usually and it's hard to do real A-B without cleanly volume matched sources.
So is Coax also much louder using DX320 Max or not?

Are you guys using mango OS with coax out? I must be missing a trick as I'm getting no sound through Mango but not an issue in Android (UAPP/Mango).

Strangely I found Coax sound the best with Mango App in Android through 320M. The MangoOS coax is a bit smoother out and blurred on some of the textures
