What do you guys think about the Bose headphone? The Triports in particular.

This is what a guy from Headphone.com (aka HeadRoom) responded:

Well, I do think that the Triports are very comfortable and quite
honestly they don't sound bad at all. There are better sounding
headphones out there but I don't think they are as comfortable as the
Triport and they are more expensive. The starting price for one of
those would be $180 which would be the Beyer DT 250-80. So if comfort
is a big issue for you the Triport would work just fine

What's your opinion?

Bose are top quality consumer-level audio products...but for us here at head-fi, that type of product is not nearly enough.

for "audiophile" sound, bose simply doesn't have it.

in a nutshell, bose is all mids, with lopped off highs, lows, and no detail. it is a smooth pleasing sound that most people (myself included) find enjoyable, but it is hardly high quality.

Haven't tried the TriPorts, but did try the SC2 in a bose store the other day (mainly for ****s and giggles). Was quite suprised at how harsh they sounded. The highs were very grating, like putting your ear right next to a Klipsch horn. No thanks.

I recently went to one of the Apple stores in San Francisco, and they had Triports attached to every demo iPod. The first thing that struck me was that they seemed a little flimsy in design, particularly the headband. I guess they are display cans, so they'll take some wear and tear. They feel very light on the head. They're cheaper than $180 now, maybe 100-120 online. I have some DT250s in the mail. Perhaps I'll do a little in store comparing after I get them.

Hi Vences5,

I have not auditioned Triport before, but used to own QC2. They are portable, really comfortable, and they do active noise cancellation for low frequency constant noise. And that's as far as compliments go.

SQ is poor compare with SR60, which cost less, sound better, nearly as portable, fail safe (no electronic circuit), and better cord... and Bose said QC2 is based on the Triport design.

Best of luck,
Overlunge

I think Bose spend most of their RESEARCH time/effort/money towards making their speakers smaller. I seems like every couple of years, their speakers gets smaller instead of better in sound quality. All bose speakers sounds the same whether from the mid 90s or now (2005), they are just smaller.

Well that and their internal electronics design has not changed in the past 20 years.

I think Bose earned a name to try to please the average consumer so the average consumer would think Bose is the best of the best. They seem to have strategized this in a way that Bose would get a reputation. A long time ago, they sold their products at ridiculously high prices and made the consumers think they were the greatest audio company there is. So now that Bose has a reputation among consumers, they can even take a pair of cheapie Koss headphones, paint it so it looks "Bosey", and then put the Bose logo on it. Then they can jack up the price to $100 and everyone will think WOW! ITS A BOSE!. I personally think Bose is smart in terms of marketing their audio gear, it seems to appeal to the average consumer.

Bose = Good Marketing, Bad Products
