I own Bose, so hate me.

I still think the Caterham is the better looking car, if not cheaper since you can get them between 10k-30k in Euros or Pounds(not sure which or how that means in US currency) from Caterham directly. But that Aerial Atom does look mighty interesting.

Okay, enough thread jacking, back on topic for me...

Indeed, trying to educate / save the masses was sometimes a full time job, sometimes pretty impossible because the customer had so completely bought into the Bose advertising campaign that they wouldn't even listen to another system...and if they did they would not believe their own ears.

When I (had) to demo 901's I would turn the system on...and leave the room, closing the door behind me. The customers probably thought that I was simply allowing them a low-pressure atmosphere to listen but in actuality I hated the 901's so much I couldn't be in the same room with them when they played. To my ears they sounded like a $90 boom box...at 10 times the price. At least the 301's were listenable (that is, I could stay in the same room with them). It's strange when one of the smallest, most "normal" design models sounded the absolute best of the line (201's, 501's, 601's and 901's all sounded so bad I left the room when playing).

When the first large chain store hit the area (Ciruit City) we finally lost the franchise about 1 year later. It's wasn't a great skin off of our backs - by that time the AM-5 Acoustimass was Bose's best seller and it was easy to sell against thanks to other (better) manufacturers chiming in with better designs - but it was just the principle of the matter. You know that the main reason Bose wanted us out was that Circuit City was doing a higher volume and they could not keep 2 authorized dealers in the same area under their marketing plans and justify this to the Circuit City bigwigs. They tried during that year to find every possible way to make our lives difficult.

Good riddance to bad rubbish.

We kept all of our Bose display goods so we could still compare them for clients.

Evil, I know, for Bose wanted everything back but we told them "Stuff you, we own the stuff" and kept all the display models. Hehehe

"I saw the AM-5 in Circuit City!"

"OK, let's play them side by side with something real, in the same space, and see what you still think of them..."

9 times out of 10 the customer walked out with something...other than the Bose.

It's SO easy being anti-Bose. Maybe it's too easy????

I have allways said the best product Bose makes is their little 301 bookshelf speaker. The only thing I don;t like about them is the placement issue. You have to have them in just the right spot in your room for them to sound right.

I bet they'd sound better if you changed out the drivers with better ones(like 8 ohm car speakers or something). If you build a 301 clone cabinet, this would be very cost effective in comparison.

Had a chance to borrow a pair of Triports for week quite a while back and can honestly say that they are crap for the price they charge. They felt flimsy and they sounded like overpriced Sony Streetstyles.

I tested the Tri-Ports recently.

Personally, FOR THE PRICE, I find them not to be of quality build, and they have a very narrow sound, dull in fact.

BUT, if you asked me the same question and the Tri-Ports sold for $75 or less, I'd probably have a much different opinion, and I may even own one.

I think he nailed it!!!

I personaly Despise Bose, Well I shouldnt say that, what I despise how most people Rave over those Lifestyles systems they sell, Claiming they have the best sound a person can buy. Anyone who knows anything about speakers and good sound would dissagree.. a speaker that size cant dig deep enough to properly cross over to a sub, so the sub needs to be crossed high, where bass starts to become directional.. not to mention tiny little cabinets like that have baffle problems. So they make those .. 2 cubes that can rotate to counter that effect, but then you get even more issues with lobing and crap.. Eeeek

Ah ok thats my rant, had to get that off my chest
I guess they work for people who want tiny speakers, but I just hate how people think there the cats meow in sound quality. Maybe if they cost 1/2 or 1/3 the price, id be more accepting.

This thread is nearly a year old! We shouldn't bring up old Bose threads...
