I got my SR60 for a few days now. I think I have burned in about 16-20hrs with pink noise (25mins with 2 min silence sessions). The sound is really nice now. The highs are great, the clarity is amazing and the bass is precise and tight, but it can be also be very boomy with adjustments on the EQ. I purchased this for use with my computer. I have a Razer AC-1 sound card that has dolby decoding (possibly just software) but it drives the SR60 very well. Anyhow, I feel like I should have went with a SR80 instead. The bowls on the SR80 seems like it can provide a better sound stage experience than the SR60 and many reviews say the SR80 is a much better bass response and precision. The SR60 is about $30 less but is the extra $ worth it for the SR80?? Also is the MS1 similar to the SR80?? The MS1 has specs similar to the SR125/225 but for less $.

So basically I'm asking if the SR80 or MS1 would be worth an upgrade to the SR60 I currently have and love. Another note, I probably won't be using an amp so what are your recommendations? Feel free to suggest other headphones that I didn't mention.

Why not just get the SR225s for $200? You could sell the sr60s for around $70 and add that to the $100 you were going to spend on the sr80s or MS1s. Then you would only be short about $30.

The SR225 is $200 like you said, its a huge price difference between the SR80 and MS1 (basically 2:1). After selling the SR60, its a difference of $30 for SR80/MS1...its ~$130 for SR225...

eh, don't get the sr-80, they're very similar, and don't really have much soundstage either. both are value headphones. if you've already decided you like the grado sound signature, go for a larger upgrade into a mid-fi grado.

Yes.

Yeah. The only difference is the tweaked cable (supposedly for more bass), and the bowls instead of flats.

Eh, honestly, I don't see a real reason to go up a few steps when you can go up a bunch. I'd definitely say get the 225's if you want to hear a real big difference. The MS-1's are definitely a step up, though, make no mistake. The SR-80's and SR-125's... not so much.

So basically I should either stay with the SR60 or go SR225+. This gets me thinking what I can do to SR60 to enhance the sound? Perhaps I should get the bowls and recable it with Canare ?? Oh btw is there a thread that shows how to take apart a Grado?

There's a huge difference between the 125's and 60's. Since you don't intend on using an amp, I would recommend that you get the 125's over the 225's. 125's get trashed (relatively speaking) on this forum when they're actually pretty awesome for their price point.

No you should shot for the top..It is your final goal anyway why buy all the cans along the way just shoot for the top and what you want but the MS-1 is fantastic from what i hear if you really like the sound signature
