Is it really worth losing your job? Just get an MP3 CD player off eBay. Sony units apparently have great sound.
What happens if some one else steals some data and there's an investigation? Who are they going to blame first, the guy with the hidden data storage device maybe. If the breach was big enough and sensitive enough, there could also be criminal charges involved.

Why not just take a simple mp3 like a sansa clip in and have a word with your supervisor about it?  I work under similar restrictions with no mobile phones (cameras etc)use allowed though I am able to use mp3 players.

Be careful crossjeremiah.  You don't want to end up like this dude.

My dad used to work for the government so I know what you have to deal with.  You don't want a device that can record and/or transmit data.  This rules out mp3 players, which are USB drives, and phones, which are USB drives with radio transmitters.  I've found 2 possible options.

1. CD players that can play mp3s burned on a CD-R.  Amazon has about a dozen of these. http://amzn.to/OLVhwx

2. This thing:

http://www.amazon.com/AdapSonic%C2%AE-Car-Cassette-Adapter-Player/dp/B005LDF6ZK

This one is a little questionable because it uses standard memory cards.  It might be kosher if you don't have access to a card reader/writer.

I don't think the 2nd option is a good idea. That't a memory card!!!

A lot of Sony D-NE and D-EJ walkmen can read MP3 CDs and also have their own proprietory compression called ATRAC. You can still get them quite cheaply on amazon (avoid private sellers asking silly money). I have a D-EJ 985 and use mine quite a lot for CDs I can't be bothered to convert.

It's not HiFi but surprisingly listenable, it's well made and the battery lift is great. I use some Sennheiser noise cancelling phones for work and it's a good combo.

Does your job involve restricted/secret information? If so, loosing your job could be the very least of your problems if you bring anything that can make a digital recording. I wouldn't risk it.
