I Just Witnessed an Orpheus Setup Sell on Audiogon for !!!

Wow.

Perspective: down here, rental units (2 bed/1 bath) are running around $25k/unit. One of those will get you $600-$700 each month.

A HE90 would have to double in value every six years or so to keep up.

Seems like they are for sale every month or so. Is it some kind of money laundering scheme? It says they were $12,900 back in the day and none of the other top headphones sell for much more than retail price.

Especially since the original HEV90 was known to not be the best of amps to start off with.  I was told the Aristaeus was based on the HEV90 but with much better parts used (and less gaudy styling

Well, the HEV90 is made for the HE90.  I would not talk down it unless you have auditioned the combo together.

You should come up here to Arizona. Prices have been steadily falling since the bust. My father and I are closing in on an 3 bed/1 3/4 bath house listed at $49k, but think we can get it for $45k cash. It has a 12' x 15' bomb shelter in the back yard(!). It would make a very nice home theater/underground headphone dungeon. :D

It is amazzing how property prices varies in different areas. A 2 bed appartment in Cupertino where I used to live will set you back $500k. Where I am now in London is even worse. Many 2 bed flats are selling for 400k-500k (pounds). Unfortunately some of us can't choose where we live. :frowning2:

I think the same gentlemen is selling this item on ebay as well.  He got a perfect feedback on ebay though, 200 plus feedback too.

It's always comforting knowing that there is someone worse off than yourself- the perspective thing.  Still, London is nice.

Orpheus- definitely not an investment.  None of this stuff is or should be.  Toys are meant to be played with- otherwise they just take up space and capital.

Sure it's believable!  Perhaps it was the same setup as ~6 months ago?  An Orpheus rig with 2 headsets was definitely posted on the 'gon for somewhere around $35k, and iirc is did actually sell

There was a set of 2 headphones and the amp for about the same price on Ebay last year, I do believe.

I think the last Orpheus (headphone) sold on ebay was around 12000$
There was another orpheus (headphone only) on ebay appoximately at the same time
was sold before the auction ended, that one was set at around 15000$ but we don't know what
price it was sold.

I just watched a Sennheiser Orpheus sell on Audiogon for $32.5k that's a lot of money! It was gone in about 20 minutes this morning. Crazy.
