I just had a thought about cigarettes

I would say the cheapest would be to grow your own tobacco or buy loose tobacco leaves and then roll your own. If rolling your own cigarettes is too much work, you can put the tobacco in a pipe There are pipes with filters. You will save money, thus afford expensive upgrades. Plus when you are smoking a pipe and wearing those wooden Grados with the money that you save, you will look sophisticated with the matching wood of the Grados and the wood pipe.

Let's see. I spend $500,000 a year on cocaine and $500,000 a year on prostitutes.
That means I would have $1,000,000 dollars a year for audio equipment if I gave those 2 up.

Sign me up!

Now if I quit this audio-crap I could afford to smoke 4-packs a day!

Believe me, it's a thought most smokers have fairly often. The irony of paying $$$ for the privilege of killing oneself is not lost on most smokers. However, it's a strong addiction and not easy to quit even for purposes of buying nice audio gear.

I did quit tobacco recently BTW (I was dipping snuff, but I've been a smoker before too) and am saving quite a bit of money in expendable income. Takes awhile to add up tho. It's really nice to be free of nicotine and no longer a slave to the crap every 30 minutes.

What kind of medicinal value could smoking cigarettes possibly have? I thought the appetite suppression comes from nicotine. So wouldn't nicotine supplements be better? Did your doctor suggest you take up smoking to lose weight? If you need to lose weight so badly, wouldn't smoking compound the problems of being overweight (high blood pressure, poor circulation and cardiovascular health)?

I would guess you were joking if you hadn't outlined your method of getting cheap cigarettes so seriously.

I smoked for something like 15 years. I quit nearly two years ago, but I very occasionally buy a pack and smoke it and then stop again. $7.00 a pack here in NYC. I actually love smoking and I think there's nothing wrong with people smoking if they want to, as long as they quit before it kills them and they don't harm others with second hand smoke (e.g. smoking in a car with the windows closed and your child in the back seat). But if you just smoke outside or where it won't bother/harm people, I think it's fine. I just couldn't do it anymore because I began feeling it's effects in a very deleterious way. Also too many people I knew died from it (only two, but even that's too many).

I'm somewhat addicted to Commit nicotine lozenges now. But I am eating healthier and exercising regularly. I've actually LOST weight since I stopped smoking.

Anyway, I don't even think about the "savings" I am reaping from not spending $7.00 a day on cigarettes. I really haven't thought about it once. Now that I am, I guess it's ok, but not as good as being able to run up and down stairs without getting winded. That sounds a little bit high-handed, but the physical effects of smoking really are deadly.

Half a mil on prostitutes.

If avg price of a whore is $40 , that works out to 12500 calls.

Multiplied by 3 minutes (just an assumption based on the need for hire here.)

Divided into hours... gets you 625.

Divided by 52 weeks, you get 12hrs per week, mind you, three minutes at a time, resulting in quite a line at the door I would suppose.

Now, factor in the time to call them all, some meals inbetween.

I just can't figure it. When do you have time to listen to music?

Just think, Bill Gates could actually pull this off.

Cigs are around $7.00 where I live.

I quit smoking on October 8th, and as of today I have saved $897.99. So far I have bought DT-880 and Ultrasone 2200 ULE (just yesterday). When I hit $1500 I'm buying a Lavy or Benchmark DAC1.

Quitting is good for you, in more ways than one.

If you're a dude, and smoke cigarettes...you're a pansy.

I mean, look at the way you hold a cigarette, between your two fingers...lol.

Also, cigars are for men, hence the suffix at the end "-ette". You're smoking a womens version of a cigar, a real mans tobacco fix. You hold it like a man, get a man sized serving of tobacco and it's wrapped in tobacco leaves, not pansy paper....you're smoking cigarETTES...you mineas well be wearing your wifes panties, and join her out on the patio for your smoke break....

Hence the reason I label cigarETTES B.!.T.C.H. sticks.

Smoking = teh ghey
A man smoking a cigarETTE = teh ghey
so that must mean......

lol.

If you quit smoking and set aside your cigarette money for a year. That's 365 x $4. You will have $1,460!!!! That's a lot of money! You can use that money to up grade to a Singlepower amp or your dream headphone or get a killer DAC or some kind of uptown CD player. If you do smoke and want to upgrade, let Head fi help ya quit. Head fi helped improve my health by helping me lose weight since I now eat less.

Easier said then done..Addiction is tough..

I spend about 200.00 a month on my drug of choice.. Presciption meds.. I have a bladder disease, so I was using them for the right reason.. I get them from my DR too, but it's not enough. Later on I got addicted.. This coming from someone who never smoked, or drank alcohol. Pisses me off knowing I could have used the money to buy audio equpiment..But, man, the withdrawls are a killer..
