It was worth every penny!

It's kind of funny how you initially think you'd never spend a certain amount on something (be it a bottle of booze, cigars, audio equipment), but as your tastes mature, you start wanting better and better (which equals more and more money).

A couple of years ago, I got turned on to single malts. Bought my first bottle for around $30, next bottle for around $40, and now spent over $50 on my most recent purchase. I'm eyeing the $70-80 range bottles now with much envy....

Then you end up with a habit that costs thousands and thousands, as illustrated by the bourbon and scotch links in my sig below.

I actually bought the wrong bottle, I was looking for the 16 year which they were out of so I took it back and upgraded... the headfi way!

Now I do have bourbon thank you very much... Black Maple Hill 21yr Bourbon

Picked up a Cohiba Tora Tube too... I'm set for some poker at the cabin this weekend.

Luckily for my liver and my wallet, my stomach can't take much alcohol any more -- so I buy what I want, sip it once in a while, and it lasts a very long time.

I've had enough years of enjoying fine wines and spirits, so I'm happy with the more selective enjoyment.

i'll have to add that one to my list to try, after i finish my bottle of 20 year old pappy van winkle, which i would highly suggest as another ~$75 bottle to try, certainly the best bourbon i've tasted

The best whisky sour I ever had was made with the 16 year Black Maple Hill. Bartender talked me into it when I asked him about the 3 different bottles they had. Not my usual way of drinking whisky--neat or on the rocks mostly--but he was good at his craft and it made for an excellent coktail.

Enjoy it in good health, but if you have any left in April, we could toast your first Head-Fi meet with a dram.

Black Maple Hill is awesome. We put away a bottle over Thanksgiving with some Montecristo No. 2s. It made my short list of favorites, with Stagg and VanWinkle.

The 16yr was what I was after and I tried 3 different BevMo's and they were all out. The one I got was actually under the wrong listing and it ended up being the 18yr which after reading a few reviews looked to be more of a woodsy/spice flavor than I was looking for. I returned it and picked up the 21yr for $95 and was told it finishes even sweeter and is smoother than the 16yr... I'll never know if it was BS but it was easily the best straight drink I have ever tasted and was worth every penny. I definitely tasted the maple and burnt sugar... not sure about all the other flavors but it was dangerously good... I wonder if they sell cases at a discount!

I've responded extremely well to the medication and lifestyle changes, so the doc has OK'd regular imbibing again, as long as it's small quantities. Hooha.
