Hugo TT 2 by Chord Electronics - The Official Thread

I was aiming at using SRC-DX fed by HD usb and convering it to double BNC into the TT2. But since my streamer, Everdolo A6 is limited to PCM 384/DSD256 when connectedcto Roon, I will aim at purchasing a pre owned Mscaler (very hard to get at a reasonable cost).
Not to discourage you from trying, but you may not fully appreciate the benefits of the M Scaler unless you get a better streamer.
You might even feel it does nothing or not worth the investment.
Why not start from the source and get a better streamer first?

The HiFi Rose RS130 blows that away, now that is quality.
@GuiltyRocker, the HiFi Rose RS130 is definitely a stunning piece of audio kit. If I had no other pressing fiduciary responsibilities I would love to audition one in my home audio system. https://www.stevehuffphoto.com/2023/10/19/the-hifi-rose-rs130-flagship-music-streamer-review/. What I’m wondering is how would the RS130 improve the sound quality of my present setup given that I have absolutely no background noise or digital glare, and I can listen for hours without wondering what aspect of internet music streaming I might be missing.

Could I use an Ethernet cable directly from my CAT6 router into the RS130 and then go from the HiFi Rose directly into my Chord Hugo m scaler without suffering any perceived degradation of SQ? Do the newest generation’s of music streamers negate the need for dedicated network switches and internet filters like the not produced anymore Network Acoustics ENO filter and Ethernet cable that I’m using now?

I am using Fiber SFP for internet into the Hifi Rose, the result is the lowest noise floor I've heard my system have, I can listen at concert levels for hours with zero ear fatigue, the music sound almost live, it's amazing. I can't tell you how it'll do in your system as I don't know what you have, but if it's anything like what it's done to my system it'll blow you away.

@GuiltyRocker, my present listening chain is listed right below my comments. I’m all for one box or less overall powered boxes in any HiFi setup if I can help it. I’ve always tried to protect my hearing as much as possible since my rock and roll 80’s halcyon days standing in front of the main floor and stage monitors for groups like Cheap Trick, Metallica, Megadeath, Slayer, White Snack, Prince, who when he first started out was really loud, Aerosmith, and too many others to mention. Now it’s nothing above 85db if I can help it. I’m old now so it’s mostly classical, opera, and jazz.

Chord just throw on thier site new USB drivers for TT2 for Win10 and Win11. They do not have ASIO. Still problems when listen from youtube + Google Chrom. No problems via WASAPI + ROON.

that 5% does matter, I actually love the tt2+scaler, without the scaler I don't, I problably would go something like a grimm mu2 or something longterm. but you have to hear yourself ofcourse. The whole chain needs in order to hear the nuance differences.

Try if you can borrow and listen to it for a week, then return… can assure you, you want it back right away
seems need to try

It really is mind boggling how good the HiFi Rose RS130 is, it completely erases RFI, EMI or any nosie whatsoever, I guess it also helps that it runs internally with super caps, and the Fiber SFP blocks all noise. It is just insane how even the smallest sounds are so clear and are brought out of the music. It is superb. I've had it for three weeks and just wow.

For three weeks… you should have paid it and tell your wife ‘they gave it to me’ 🤪😂

Imho the streamer's power supply, it's software (does it preserve bit perfect) and LAN optic are crucial.
For RJ45 I use this on the streamers input, there are alternatives.

Then streamer toslink out.

If you want a streamer with high performance and low cost the PI2AES battery powered and using optical out is amazing. There is an option to split the power so that the raspberry Pi has one power source and the audio board uses a separate power source and this made a big difference for me so I have one battery powering each. I ended up picking up the Hugo2go 2yu mainly as a portable option and as my main streamer but there isn't a significant improvement between the two.

Pi2AES isn't very pretty looking but you don't have to interact with it very much so I used it hidden and I use an iPad to stream to the Pi2AES. This was another thing I found I could not get a direct wired ethernet to sound decent with streamers. I tried an approved audio switch powered by battery tried every configuration I could and I just couldn't get it to sound good I preferred the sound of going wirelessly to the Pi2AES over anything higher bitrate was giving me wired. YMMV I have heard about devices that do a great job and there are fibre switches etc but I wasn't willing to put a lot of money into this or spend a lot of time comparing these I just ended up going wireless since that seems to work well for me at no cost. One other thing that made a difference was in Roon I set the Pi2AES as the renderer.

Wired, you can recheck with a lan isolator, its a nice to have.

Wireless, one better have a very good wifi router (a gaming router might be better than the ISP router tech) and a solid signal strength. With less that optimal I had some sound quality loss, with most likely the VONETS wifi bridge I used as the weakest link, even running it on a battery.
