Hugo TT 2 by Chord Electronics - The Official Thread

I’ve had my TT2 for about a month now and it’s been freaking amazing with my Verite Opens. It has this quality where I just get lost in the music, and I’m staying up late just listening to my library on weeknights when I should definitely be sleeping.

I’ve contemplated ordering an M-Scaler to see what that whole thing is about, and you guys definitely don’t make it easy on the wallet. That said, I just bought a used Mesa Boogie with my remaining funds so it’ll be a while before I can afford to add anything else to my audio chain, unless I want to go into DEBT! :deadhorse:

I bought an M Scaler about a month ago(I've had the TT2 for a year ago). I was going to hold off but then I spotted used Wave Streams here, bought those thinking I'd just wait and then found a deal on a new M and boom. Definitely worth it. The TT2 just killed my other system of Cavalli Liquid Fire/Wyred 4 Sound DAC.

Ah, in the U.S. it's even easier. Say you charge $2000 on your Visa. The bill comes and says in bold, in a box - Minimum payment = $25.32 (example). So A LOT of people make the minimum payment only - my brother did it once. It's literally harder for some people to pay the full balance if they are not paying attention. Then the interest on the unpaid $1970 balance is something insane like 19% or 25% p.a. compounded daily. Basically highway robbery allowed to be legal by the corrupt system (corruption in the Western world just operates at a higher level).

I remember how I was surprised when I moved back to Europe as an adult that here you can only pay your Visa/Mastercard in full, period (even though I never did anything else in the U.S.).

Not true, we in the UK can pay a monthly minimum ( which, as you say, will rape you in the long run because of the added interest ) or completely paying the credit card in full every month. Now, I would never pay just the monthly minimum, as the % is far to high and it can get out of control very quickly.

Also we have store credit, which is usually Buy Now Pay Later, it’s just what it says, buy now and pay later in say 6-9-12 months time, aslong as its all paid up in full before the date they gave you. During that period it’s interest free, but, if you miss that date by 1 day a whack of interest is added to the final bill.

Paypal has a decent £2200 credit option and, purchases over £100 are interest free for 4 months.

Here I go again, speaking schit at 4am.

🤣🤣🤣

Black of course!

I find black to match better between components rather than silver. And the pretty lights look better against black and that's very important...
Griff500, any new insights after having the Chord DAVE for a couple of days?

Public service announcement

Was at my local dealer today to pick up Abyss Diana V2, when he told me that they will be increasing price for all Chord products by 5%. This is to compensate for a price increase they see from the Chord dealership network. I don't see a point in him trying to mislead me, as I wasn't there to buy a Chord device in the first place (bought Hugo 2 from them a month ago).

So if you are thinking to buy anything Chord, consider doing it now! Unsure if this affects direct purchase from Chord, but worth calling your local dealer to ask about their upcoming prices. Hope this helps someone.

It's great.

One thing I have noticed is that the soundstage does not collapse when bypassing my M-Scaler like it does with the TT2. I guess the DAVE is that much better in this regard than the TT2. The M-Scaler does improve the sound of the DAVE but so far I'm not detecting as significant a difference as it makes to the TT2. It does noticeably improve the texture of voices and the sound of guitars, etc - transients are more realistic and engaging with it but so far I don't think it's as big an improvement as it makes to the TT2.

I have seen people say that the TT2 is a warmer sound than the model it replaced and compared to other Chord DACs - I think it could simply be that there is more transparency to the DAVE and the lesser transparency in the TT2 gives the feeling of a warmer sound. Or not... I'm no expert. 🤣

Thus far I would say that the DAVE on it's own is better to my ears than the TT2 with the M-Scaler. If you look at the combined price of the TT2 and M-Scaler compared to the price of the DAVE then that probably reflects the performance hierarchy quite well. The M-Scaler has shown itself to be a very worthwhile addition to the TT2. If I was choosing again I would take the DAVE on it's own over the TT2 with the M-Scaler. I'll be listening to the DAVE with the M-Scaler for some more time and then remove the M-Scaler and see what I think.

As good as the TT2 is, and it is fantastic, I think the DAVE is a noticeable step up.

I apologise to my fellow TT2 fans for the above and accept whatever punishment is deemed to be appropriate...

He is sobbing in a corner at having spent 10k and for naught, not being able to hear one difference or iota of improvement over the fantastic TT2. :)
I am sobbing in a corner! It's a very sad song I am listening to and the DAVE is that good. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Hmmm  As for the combined price, don't forget to add another £1500 or more for good BNC connectors between the MScaler and the TT2.

I went the MScaler/TT2 route and like many here I am very happy -- no changes planned. But I think what you're saying suggests going direct to Dave is the better alternative.

Will be curious to hear your views on the Dave with/without the MScaler, when you are ready.

I will have to wait with the M-Scaler 🥲. I'm happy anyway because I got my Farad Super3 today 🥳.

I mentioned the Lyndsey Buckhingham and Christine McVie album (album of the same name, 2017), in TT2 thread or Hugo 2 thread.

Anyway I kept meaning to explore the rest of Lyndsey Buckingham's albums, as the album named above grew on me. Anyway tonight I got Wikipedia and his discography; and Seeds we Sow, was the previous album from him. ...... First few tracks took my head off, so I suggest everyone check those tracks out.

@Karnicopia

Yeah it never gets old. I said many times in Hugo 2 thread, that the Hugo 2 surprised me every day. When I got it, I listened to it solidly for a month (plus), because life was too short not to.

TT2 never gets old either.

I still love my Mojo.

Lyndsey Buckingham - Seeds we Sow. I mentioned earlier that the first tracks fo this album stood out, took my head off. I think I had actually reached tracks six 'When She Comes Down', and seven 'Rock Away Blind'. ..... Ya gotta listen. Track six has a great vibe. Track seven does acoustic guitar so well. ... Will add the Youtube links.
