HQPlayer Impressions and Settings Rolling Thread

The HQPlayer Embedded web interface shows that I'm still using sinc-M for 1x, sinc-L for Nx, and NS9 dithering. Only HQPlayer Client shows the default values.

Where in the web interface? Did you refresh the page after touching the /config page?

When you start playing, Client will show the active ones in Play View.

"Refresh devices" is similar in practice as doing "systemctl restart hqplayerd".

I get that, but I've never had to reset my filter or dither settings whenever I've restarted hqplayer. The filters always stay the same.

Even after refreshing the page, the config page still shows sinc-M/sinc-L/NS9.

Actually, I'm noticing now that the Client is showing the default settings regardless of the actual settings. Or the hqplayer config page is lying to me.

Settings on config page are one thing, those are only the startup defaults. Current active ones can be different. Active ones are shown by Client and the Embedded front page.

Just for the record here, at the moment I have four main headphone systems:

1) My main development workstation: T+A HA 200 + T+A Solitaire P (through balanced)
2) Office system: Holo Audio Spring 3 / Gustard A26 + Ferrum Oor/Hypsos + AKG K601
3) Secondary development workstation: Holo Audio Spring 2 + Schiit Jotunheim 2 + Sennheiser HD800 (through balanced)
4) Travel system: iFi Audio xDSD Gryphon + Shure SRH1540

All corrected using Oratory parametric EQ settings.
Do you think the T+A HA200 is the best DAC available to get the most out of HQPlayer? Particularly if someone is focused on DSD. If so, what aspects elevate it above, say the Holo May?

For example both T+A and Holo Audio are good.

HA 200 is very good headphone amplifier combined with same DAC as DAC 200. In addition, is also works nicely through analog inputs.

Then there are even more high-end devices like T+A SD 3100 HV/SDV 3100 HV/PSD 3100 HV. These are even better DACs (with significant cost increase involved).

I'm running an RTX 3090 on my Roon server but can't get above x256 with these settings... any tips? Can anyone with a higher end setup tell me if you can reach x512? Currently my GPU utilization shows 80~100% utilization during playback with these settings.

If you are getting 80-90% utilization on your GPU try splitting the load between CPU & GPU

Try CUDA checked and multicore both gray and checked (to see which one is better for your CPU)

I’m on an i9-12900K w/ RTX 3080 and I can do DSD512. 8% CPU and GPU rarely goes above 20%

I'm on a i9-9900k and a 4070 with 16gb of DDR4 and I can do DSD512, make sure you're using the right drivers for your DAC also, that could also be an issue or update the firmware if possible.

Thanks for the input. I’m also rocking a i9900k still :)
Have yall tried DSD512 with sinc-medium or long and ASDM7ECv3? I found these to be much more demanding than others so far.

is sinc-medium apodizing?

Thinking about trying this but will it work on an i7-6820HQ laptop with 64 gigs of ram.

Will it convert all of the music on an SD card once and save them, or does it always do it on the fly?

What I am planning to do is use the Android client on my phone that is hooked up to a FiiO Q11 with my sassy Monolith M1070 headphones.

@Born2Cuddle

It works a bit differently. You would need to connect your Q11 to a computer. It could be either your laptop or another computer in your LAN taking the role of audio endpoint called NAA (Network Audio Adapter). NAA can run for example on a cheap Pi4. Android devices cannot act as NAA.

You can use your Android device to control HQPlayer playback if you dont wish to sit behind your computer.

HQPlayer converts all content on the fly, it does not change the source content.

i7-6820HQ / 32GB is my laptop I used more than 1 year ago with HQPlayer (that time yet HQPlayer v4). I was able to run PCM to DSD256 conversion on the fly without nVidia GPU CUDA offload assistance. HQPlayer v5 is a bit lighter on resources (at least up to v5.4, I'm not sure with in the newest versions). Most probably you would be able to play all content at DSD256 with that laptop. FiiO Q11 supports DSD256 input, but CS43198 DAC chip does not allow so called direct DSD mode. You would need to find out what sounds better for you: upsampling to 352.8/384k (less computer load) or to DSD256. DSD256 could still sound better, that's what I experienced with ESS chips too which process DSD signal in similar way.
