HQPlayer Impressions and Settings Rolling Thread

sinc-Long has the best transparency but is very processor intensive. Almost as intensive as good SDM modulation. sinc-L is good but I find the new sinc-Lh to be more transparent than sinc-L but much easier on the processing power than sinc-Long.

sinc-Lh and Ll are worth trying. I've recently upgraded my HQP PC to Ryzen 7900/32GB. and it still can't run SDM output at DSD256 with sinc-L.

I really love sinc-Lh!

Sinc-Lh is very easy going and even ”etheral” sounding filter. Spacious sound with great ambience. What bothers me though, is the lack of bass punch and dynamics, which are better with something like the default poly-sinc-gauss filter family and poly-sinc-ext2.

There's a new hqp (5.12.2) release which to my ears is a big leap in performance
I have an AMD 9600x with rtx4070super 32GB 6000 ram and cyan2 DAC

Set sinc long h for both hqp filters
I'm using asdm7ec-fast as modulator DSD 48k x256
With cyan2 DAC correction

The best I've heard so far. Great bass and instrument separation.

I'm back to PCM again for my Gustard X26III with the fantastic new sinc-long h. It was skipping at 768 and LNS15 32 bits but I found that contrary to previous advice when I "checked" multicore and CUDA offload rather than just "greyed" these settings, the load dropped from 80 Watts to 60, the fan settled down and the occasional skips went away.

I can get to ASDM7EC-fast 512 at 48x512 but have to use a lesser filter of sinc-Lh since even this has my laptop pegged at 88 Watts and the fan roaring. the difference in the filters is apparent and although the new fast modulator is excellent. This DAC sounds better with sinc-long h on PCM.

The NAA to the LAN input of the X26III sounds better than my best USB cable.

1 Suréchantillonnage : H long sinc
Suréchantillonnage Nx : Sinc Lh
Modulateur : ASDME7 Fast 512+ FS
DSD 512 *48

pas de souci de coupure en DS1024, la charge devient alors plus importante et la température en Passif dépasse les 70 degrés, le DSD 512 reste un bon compromis

I am quite surprised that your 7900 X and 32 GB of Ram configuration cannot oversample to DSD 256 especially with Sinc L
it can but Dac Correction must be disabled. Maybe 7900x is more powerful then 7900.

So here is a repost with the log file as an attachment instead.

I'm (still from day 1) having issues with my Gustard DACs, R26 first and now X26III, losing the NAA from HQ Player after a few minutes. It has been connecting flawlessly on start up every time but after a few minutes of playing the connection is lost and it stops playing. I can then go into the file/ settings/ output and the selections for IPv6 and X26: DAC-X26: USB Audio are still there so if I just click OK, I can start the playback again. And a few minutes later it will lose connection again.

The only way I could get an IPv6 NAA connection to the RJ45 out of the Acer Nitro V15 laptop to the RJ45 input to the internal streamer of the Gustard X26III is to insert a Netgear AX1800 mesh router in between with CAT 8 cables from each. It won't connect if I try to just run a CAT 8 cable from the laptop to the DAC.

The USB connection always plays perfectly from HQ Player with all of my DACs but the LAN streamer input of these Gustard DACs sounds better than my best USB cable so I want to get this worked out.

Here is a clean log of the latest event after restarting the laptop and HQ Player:

Connecting hqplayer pc directly to a NAA by ethernet cable will not work I think. Both pc and NAA needs to be connected to the same network. Maybe get a network switch.

You can, but you would need to use Diretta to accomplish this

Roon x HQPlayer x Diretta is the way :)

poly-sinc-hb-m has a really clean, sharp, fast transient sound with 24/192 files and runs at 27 Watts for PCM768 on my laptop so is very easy on processing.

After it takes 5 seconds to initialize the first track of a new session.

It is very laser focused. Some people might call it "in your face" in an intensely dynamic DAC like the Gustard X26III. I went back and forth versus sinc-long, which is wider and deeper, slightly less dynamic and more ethereal. But the same 24/192 file at 24/ 768 takes 56 Watts with sinc-long. No way I can load this for SDM conversion of PCM files.

I would still tend to choose sinc-long for serious listening in PCM 7XX but will now use poly-sinc-hb-m for efficient listening at night.

And it allows me to play SDM 48X512 with ASDM7EC-fast 512 at 75 Watts which is again less deep but has a pleasant realistic character through the Gustard X26III compared to PCM.
