HQPlayer Impressions and Settings Rolling Thread

It’s been some months that I’m trying to find the best synergy for my sistem;
I noticed that for the best holographic sound, the best modulator is the AMSDM7EC 512fs+,it give a lot of space,is the most airy, and the sound signature is the most analogue.
I’m trying to use a filter to handle the modulator, and to my ear the sinc mGa is the best choice soundstage, airy, and bass rumble rendering.
But with this combo the resolution is not the best ever heard,if I use the sinc L (all of them in 44.1*1024) the resolution increases a lot,but it lost the “soundstage room” with the combo previously mentioned.
In your experience which is the best sound combo for:
Resolution
Holographic soundstage
Airy sound
And strong bass?
Thank you for your help :)
Dsd1024 will have the least resolution compared to dsd256 or dsd512. But 1024 will have the most holographic soundstage and airiness because of the added noise compared to dsd256 or 512

For filters and modulators - the default filters along with some of the shorter filters, sinc short lp/mp, xtr short lp/mp has the best resolution. 7EC fast or 7ECV3 works well in terms of resolution

Shorter filters such as the short mp or xtr short mp with dsd256 have a perceived stronger bass.

I also use AMSDM7EC 512fs a lot but it’s not the best for resolution, it’s more of a smooth analog sound. I like it with the HB-2S filters

For much of my general listening, I use the 7EC-fast modulator with poly-sinc-ext2. This gives good resolution with strong sub bass authority and clarity. With tracks that have a wide soundstage, this combination gives excellent detail and precision with sounds at the edges.

For slower, more analog content where the deepest soundstage is a priority, also try poly-sinc-gauss-xla or poly-sinc-gauss-hires-lp.

I’m absolutely in love with these settings:

Together with ZMF Aegis & Caldera closed, it's pretty much the best audio experience one can imagine.

I'm in trial of HQP embedded. Can I ask for any ideas why AHM7EC5L doesn't give any sound on output?

AHM7EC5L only works with DSD1024.

and don‘t worry these DSD1014 with AHM7EC5L will have a lower load than DSS256.
(Made the same mistake as you )

I did more listening after reading your comment, and when ASDM7EC-fast is used with sinc-MGa, it definitely gives a deeper, more holographic soundstage as compared to poly-sinc-ext2, but only requires a little more processor power. A filter like poly-sinc-gauss-xla may give a similar result, but it requires much more processor power than what I have unless I reduce the sample rate.

I just gave ASDM7EC-fast a workout tonight, and I'm really liking it. At first I was pairing it with hires lp, then switched to poly sinc gauss XL, which is my perennial favorite. The combo of the PSG XL for spaciousness and ASDM7EC fast for sharp transients is a real winner. I can't use PSG-XL(a) with ASDM7EC super, I get dropouts. But with EC-fast there's no problem. Really delicious.

I like this new sinc-Lh filter combined with gauss1 @ 1.536 / 24bit to May. Great synergy with TC and psytrance.

Is there a YouTube tutorial video for HQ player? It’s seems very complex. I downloaded the trial version on my Mac and not sure if I can use Qobuz.
I don't know of a YouTube tutorial but can attest that Qobuz works seamlessly with HQ player client. I do understand that the software requires a learning curve but the included PDF manual is pretty helpful and there are forums you can post questions on. I cannot imagine my audio life without it however, it is a true asset. Good luck

I have been saying this all along, that I probably wouldn’t have stuck around in the audio hobby for this long without hqplayer coming up with sound quality improvement updates every few months!!!

With my limited budget, I can’t afford to buy new speakers or headphones or amps every few months, so it’s really hqplayer keeping the excitement factor for me with new sound quality improvements and new features .

Top-tip on the client-side - take a look into jplay. It integrates seamlessly with hqplayer and really improves the experience imho.
Or if you have deeper pockets with Roon you can forget about HQPlayer once you have configured your output settings
