I would like to possibly invest in a WA22, however my primary listening phone is my K1000 and pose the question can this amp drive the K1000 with sound signature with enough power.

I am interested due to being completely balanced.

The K-1000 was designed to be driven by speaker amps. I have very little experience with the WA22, so I won't comment.

But since the K-1000 can use a much wider array of amps, broaden your search.

Personally, I'm not a huge fan of going balanced. It often increases price dramatically and the benefits are arguable.

What I really enjoy with my K-1000 are DHT (directly heated triode) amps. My K-1000 has never sounded better than when run off 2A3 tubes. I run my pair from the speaker taps on the Moth Si2A3. Pure magic. I've also run them off an Audio Note 2A3 amp at a meet. Didn't get a lot of listening in, but it was sweet.

I'd look into the various 2A3 amps listed at Audiogon. Include other DHTs, like the 45 and the much-loved 300B. While not balanced, there's every chance you'll be floored by how good the synergy is with a K-1000.

Just because it is terminated with balanced connectors doesn't mean in has to use a balanced amp. Uncle Erik, as usual, is right. A 2000 dollar balanced amp is more like two 1000 dollar amps put together.

Just a question, why is it that balanced headphones are so popular? Seems lots of speaker buffs don't put nearly as much importance into balanced as we do here on Head-fi.

I own a WA22 and the K1000. I run Sylvania 7236 power tubes that significantly increase the output power of the 22. When I'm listening to my RS-1 or D7000 the volume control is at approximately 1/4 volume with the K1000 about 2/3. The K1000 sound excellent with the 22 however if the K1K is your only phone I'd suggest you go with a speaker amp. you'll have balanced phones, power to spare and a significant dollar savings.
