Grado SR200's (with HP 1000 drivers)
I have had two pairs (now one) since 1993.
Still like em. Very revealing and dynamic

Wow... nice model number.

It's sad to see that those aren't hoarded by stoners.

I've had many pairs of K340s come and go, so that's been my vintage experience. I still have my pair, a stock bass-light pair that also happens to be the best sounding K340 I've heard thus far.

My main headphone right now though is the O2 Mk2, and primary portable headphone is the ES2. My DT770 also gets a lot of head time as it's basically permanently attached to my computer.

Definitely not vintage.

Actually just got a Beyer DT 48 (not the A.00 or the E - I send photos to Beyer and they couldn't identify it but said way old and probably from Germany - it's black and 8 ohms with art deco print).

The Beter DT 48, in almost any version, is essentially the same as the first headphone circa 1930

And for the record it sounds great - not good bass (actually almost no bass) but mids and highs that make the AKG 501 sound sluggish, congested and veiled. Seriously.

Your description of the DT48 sounds very similar to the sound of the DT831, which is the vintage Beyer that I own. Although, it's probably not as old as your DT48.

Hey, I did do a recable of the k400's.
I used Mogami Neglex Mini-Quad, a Switchcraft plug, and a combination of Cardas and Kester solder. I used Cardas on the L/R channels w/a bit of kester in there and then used the Kester on the Ground Channels. I kept it single ended and removed the older connectors for the jumpers and soldered them onto the new cable - then covering the connections in heatshrink, so it is still fully replacable.

The Bass really comes through on these now - nice and deeper reach! I would say that they are more balanced and a bit more detail while maintaining the soundstage and treble/mids.
I recabled the AT 701's in the same stuff, but I covered that cable in Techflex. That made a huge difference. Granted it did have that lamp-style cord like the k340.
Personally, I think that these older cables just get shot after a while and were not that great to begin with.

Pics? Especially of the area where the cable enters the earcup. Did you change them to dual entry?

haha, the HD420...classic.

I use K240s which are about 15 years old i'd say, new cables, and I have a set of Realistic Nova somethings from the 70s, but they aren't so good....big, heavy earcups and very rolled off highs.
