Yup, the Philips GZ34 metal base double D getter. Goes for 150 - 450. If you can find one at all.

this thread scares me. i'm hoping that if i buy a Melos amp, i'll just buy a few pairs of JJ/Tesla 6922s and be happy.. yeah right.

the price of the Amperex PQ white label (Holland or USA) 6922s scares me, with the 7038s being even worse. however if i do get a Melos i'll have to go that route since NOS doesn't last forever...

i'll just hope and pray that's the only kind of tube gear i ever buy. pray...

No kidding.

I'm happy with my Philips 5AR4, which I got a great deal on from a member here. I just can't bring myself to buy a $150 tube.

Vacuum tube is magic, the gift from the God. Once you start, you will never stop.

There are a lot more bad habits than buying tubes, at least that is what I tell myself. I enjoy tubes more than about anything, sad isn't it.? I do have 5 or 6 nice nos metal base GZ34's that I want to try in an amp one of these days. They are all different so it make for anice comparison. As far as other tubes, too many to remember.

Buying new tubes is part of the fun of having a tube amp. I've been trying out variants of the 6N3/5670 in my Yarland P100, since this was a tube I had no experience with until the Yarland. The Russuan 6N3P's were better than the Chinese 6N3. But I ordered some NOS American 5760s to try next.

I have two main tube amps, to retube them requires a pair WE 437A's and 300B's, a pair of 5687's or 7044's and a quad of 50's. I leave the math as an exercise for the readers. Fortunately the tubes are fairly long lived.

It's best if you subconsciously NOT add the amounts in a total sum.

$65, $35, $120, $22, $130, $40, $90, $35, $75, $80 separately makes me feel a lot better than $692

kind of addiction indeed, caught a bunch of pricy valves last 3 months - WE 350B, Mallard EL37, GEC kt66 /kt88, Tung-sol 6550 grey plant, Mallard ecc83 long plant D-getter, spend a lot

power amp tube is not cheap and won't last too long. It's better to keep away it for speaker, yeah, if one can.
