My fav.:

Garlic should never be cut or chopped. To really bring out its flavor it needs to be mashed with a very small amount of salt.
You need to squeeze out the oils.

If you are really crazy cut into paper thin slices using a very thin knife or a razorblade and use those flakes on some olive oil on a frying pan ... the garlic will melt with not much effort

Add chopped onions to the oil-garlic mixture and stir till golden brown.

Then add some oregano (fresh if possible) and mix for some time.

For some ZING add some finely chopped dried red pepper to the mixture and stir on low flame.

Later add some chopped spring onions to the mixture above till they turn almost reddish - brownish.

Then add some fresh tomate paste and a lil more sugar and salt to the mixture and mix till nicely hot. Taste to see if everything is to your preference.

Not too long other wise the paste will become a liquid.

Add your fav. pasta with meat and veggies if you like. Garnish with parsley etc. if it's you preference and eat away after the whole mixture together is properly warmed up

I see I'm not the only one. I used to cook in college, but haven't done much since I got married. My wife is a great cook and I put on 20lb the first year. Managed to take about 5lb off, but I just can't seem to break 200lb. The one thing I have noticed (and I think my wife agrees) is that if it involves fire, I cook better than she does. Grill, charcoal, or campfire. Always wanted to try solar cooking.

About the only things I make these days are eggs, pancakes, french toast and other breakfast foods.

Dorm cooking was a blast! You college guys can eat well if you try. Best dorm meal we made was fried squid and rice. Deer with potatoes and mushrooms was another redneck favorite Whoa-boy!

). We'd be a pretty sorry looking bunch without them. Hehehehe if there's any women on this board i expect to be getting the death threats shortly.

I think if there were a manly channel that had some type of cooking show with a hot babe,or better yet babes, then more guys would have an interest in cooking.I'd tune in to watch Tyra in a baby-tee(bra optional) wip up some steaks.HEHE!

Men are certainly better at cooking. I don't think there's any question about that. But we can't do everything. We've got to delegate some of the responsibility down to the women.

I would like to see a cooking show featuring some of the girls from Baywatch. Those girls sure can act. I wonder if they can cook. Another route to take would be to have a cooking show hosted by the Crocodile Hunter guy. Those cooking shows are always really boring. The crocodile guy is really animated, which would be a nice change of pace. They could show clips of crocodile hunting in between scenes in the kitchen if it got kind of boring.

Those baywatch girls cook my grits pretty well. ;-)

I don't care *what* they are doing as long as there is 'bouncing'.

As for your other statement, how incredibly sexist of you!

LOVE to cook. It's the only way to make sure that I get to eat what I want. Plus, in our house, whoever cooks does NOT have to clean up. ;-)

Seems like lots of folks here do grilling and enjoy burgers. But, sometimes it's nice to have a little change. Want something easy for the grill that's NOT a burger? How about garlic lemon sage chicken? It's incredibly easy and very versatile.

Marinade:
1 cup fresh lemon juice
zest of two lemons (use a grater)
6 garlic cloves smashed and chopped
~ 1/4 cup finely chopped fresh sage
1/2 cup good olive oil
salt and pepper as needed

Throw the marinade into a plastic freezer bag along with 1 lb boneless, skinless chicken breasts. Squeeze out all the air and seal the bag. Marinate the chicken overnight. Grill and enjoy!

If there are leftovers, can use the cooked chicken to make a nifty chicken salad.

Well...I've been known to cook a little! And, I'm certainly glad to hear that you guys are cooking. I love it! Although I must confess I eat out quite a bit these days.

dont you people who cook find that we do it better at home for much less money. I dont eat out much these days. Its not my idea of fun to dress up and take 3 or 4 or 5 hours just to eat them to pay a lot of money to do it.

In general, you are right Ken. You can usually do it at home better. But.....especially if you live in a big city (see New York, San Francisco, New Orleans, Chicago, LA etc..) then there will be places that will mop the table with your cooking for a reasonable price. Plus, not many people can really make authentic ethnic foods like the peoples of those cultures. If I want good Thai, I will go to a restaurant with a Thai chef. I may try it, but it probably won't be as good. I think there is a good balance to be struck. Eat out every once in awhile, but do it right. It is better to go once to a 50 dollar a plate restaurant than twice to a 25 dollar a plate (most of the time anyway). Of course, this all depends, and I am assuming that cost/taste ratio is the same, and the law of diminishing returns does not apply to your eating experience. With that big qualifaction, I turn to my second point.

Now, when you do what stuartr is doing over an open fire... Then you're onto something (except that panties are flammable so not the best of ideas on Colorado these days).

Point taken. I love grillin' -- my favorite is a freshly caught brown trout. Grille some veggies with it, and you are set. As for burning panties, I would consider that a significant advantage. Burnt panties cannot be put back on....

Good points and I want to elaborate on them (nothing better to do while my router loads
wink.gif
): When you go to that special resturant with the special chef, if the staff make a big deal about the evenings specials dishes, don't order the old standards that happen to be on the menu. Good chefs consider themselves artists and those specials are masterpieces - the other menu items are just prints.
