Search is broken for the moment, don't know if this has been discussed previously. How large is your iTunes library (Mac or PC)? Mine is currently at 42,506 songs, 516.92 gb.

Man, I can't even begin to compete. I've got approximately 3,000 songs, occupying 42 gigabytes.

Argh. I think it's close to 50GB. However, there is duplication. I ripped everything into AAC on my PowerBook, and that was fine with the iPod for awhile.

Then, I bought a pair of Sennheiser HD-650s. And I stumbled across this website called "Head-Fi." Maybe you've heard of it. Anyhow, I ended up buying a lot more headphone stuff, got into computer-as-source, and ended up re-ripping my collection in ALAC. Still not done ripping, though. I've got to find some time to get the 300GB external working with the Mini. Then I'll go nuts.

Zero. I clear the library as soon as I'm done transferring the songs.

Curious as to why? Not condemning, different strokes and all, just curious.

How did you even get that many songs? That's over 3,000 CD's if there are 14 songs per album. Did you really encode all that?

Myself, I have 7840 songs in the lossy collection, at 58.2GB (mostly 320CBR mp3 and 256CBR AAC). 5622 of those songs I've also encoded in ALAC, at 147.31.

Frankly, managing two libraries sucks. Can't wait for the 160gb iPod.

Started out as something to do, ya know napster and all, Became a serious library when Apple first introduced ALC. That's when I started viewing the computer as a viable alternative to my stereo system for my CD & vinyl collection. I also have a very large library of DAT tapes of live concerts (I used to do the taping thing with portable dats and expensive mikes). Last 3 years or so has been ripping and converting. There are a fair number of audiobooks and comedy albums in the library also, but 95% is music.

Because I have a slow computer and a long list of songs would make it nearly impossible to run the program at all. It's already bulky enough as it is.

Besides, I don't use iTunes for anything other than transferring songs to my iPod; I have no need to keep a library.

50.82 gigs, for continuous play of 19.4 days. Since I only put stuff on the library I actually listen to (my comp sucks too badly to be archival) this is a good thing, I don't get bored much. 207 Albums too, which is a mix of actual albums and playlists I decided to store as albums. About 50 playlists, which get tweaked quite a bit.

Note- I have almost no opera and very little classical on here, since itunes doesn't do gapless. I only have two albums - classical, and classical vocal, for the stuff that can stand discretely on its own. Hmm, and a few albums that all have gaps in them naturally. I need gapless badly so I can put Tosca on here without hearing the CD spinning!
