I'm stuck on which one I should get.
And do any of these need an amp?

If you want a "V" shaped EQ (recessed mids, prominenant bass and highs) go with the M50.

If you want a neutral can that does everything pretty well but nothing outstanding, get the HM5.

Both benefit from an amp.  Depending on what you use to power your cans, the HM5 may need one.

I'd pass on both and get the Shure SRH 840, which is neutralish with a mid bass hump.  It's "need" for an amp falls between the other two.

Okay, thanks
Would it also be necessary to get a portable amp for it since they aren't for home use? I don't want to spend more than $100 for an amp.

That depends on how your equipment drives it and your personal taste.  My iPhone 4 drives it fine, but not loud enough for very noisy environments or for those who want to degrade their hearing.
