HiFiMan Susvara

Double post but — if you do recommend a good DAC/Amp under $500 that can drive Susvara better than the TT2 alone (or possibly just an amp that sits in front of the TT2) please feel free to share.
TT2 can't drive susvara properly not even from the rear xlrs. Something like an oor and hypsos is far superior

I used to have a WANDLA + OOR + Hypsos stack and the TT2 drove the Utopia far better than the Ferrum stack so I sold it 😭

Another n00b question — when looking at an Amp how do I know if it can drive the Susvara properly? Objectively speaking (using metrics and measurements alone)?

Impedance? Voltage? FR?

you have the chord tt2 right? it has a powerful output stage on paper. i'd try the susvara with it for a while before exploring other amplification options.

I think about $12k (£9k) is doable. And that's a Chord Dave and Feliks Envy.
You could get a Holo May for $3k, or a Spring for $2.5k
And you could drive Susvara very nicely from a Cayin ha300mk2 which would be about $1k less than an Envy.
You need to quite active on Classifieds searching though to make it happen. The great buys go fast.
Or a Mass Kobo 465 ordered from Japan directly is 14K.

Its sound signature isn’t gonna have dynamics of Susvara. I have tried planars with TT2 and no they sound drastically different than DAVE’s HP out which actually is much better with planars

well that's your experience. i'm suggesting that he has his own. he may want for more but i doubt that it will be awful. i know this is the high-end audio forum but the tt2 is hardly lo-fi.

The only hp amp for 500€ that i know it has enough power to drive susvara is the burson soloist 3x (not the gt) second hand. From soundnews susvara review “
The absolute best Susvara amplifier up to $1500. It has the power, it has the kick and dynamics, sounds fun and engaging, but it isn’t the most accurate or resolving amplifier. I see it as a cleaner version of Flux FA-10, I could easily live with it.

  • Resolution/Details: 8.5
  • Transient Response: 8.5
  • Dynamics: 9
  • Tonality: 8
  • Power/Control: 8.5
  • Stage size: 8
  • Overall score: 8.42
Forget anything with less power imo.
I got the gt which is more or less the same power and its fun enough to enjoy susvaras. I have a 500€ topping a90 and it cant drive the susvaras.

You guys confirmed my worst fears — that a Susvara is not a $5K investment, but a $20K one. :gs1000smile:
You can enjoy a lot the susvaras with a burson gt 3x, orr+hypsos and flux labs volot, and a gustard r26. Not the best but really enjoyable.
This is like $8k investment if you get a susvara open box from hifiman. Even if you want tubes you can get a trafomatic head2 instead of the ss amps i mentioned. The four amps are powerful enough. Of course a 20k chain will sound better. And if you have a tt2 you dont need the gustard.
Orr if you like warm and dynamics and volot if you like a big soundstage, and burson between both.

I just gotta say the new Mannequin Pu$$y sounds absolutely amazing off the Sus with the Voila cable (and the Nirvana too). It's a great album as well

For what it’s worth, I know a number of people in the Schiit Mjolnir 3 thread have said the Mjolnir 3 drove the Susvara surprisingly well (much better than expected considering the price point and power output).

Would the Mjolnir 3 drive the Susvara better than my TT2 though? 🤔
I see conflicting opinions — many say TT2 is going to be fine while others say it's garbage for Susvara.
