HiFiMan Susvara

True, I luckily read through this thread and contacted a few people about the amps I narrowed my search down to. That really helped a lot from going down the rabbit hole.

Now THAT'S best practice all around. That's how one should go about, both in term of diligence and community etiquette and, not to mention, effectiveness.

I have the Riviera A1C-10.

Excellent choice. Heard it (rather, the AFC-10) and it drives the Susvara spectacularly well.

Susvara is very hard to drive properly, that is 100% true. No one is saying that it is the only factor that's counts. The reason we have som many posts and question about amps is because amp pairing have an big impact on SQ.

Imagine if someone counted all the people who first said they have an amp that can drive Susvara or HE6 well and then actually tried a better and more powerful amp and had to admit that they sound better.
no question the susvara needs proper amping...having owned 2 susvara and numerous amps and having been one who in the past was skeptical I can now say definitively that the susvara shines with not only proper power but a proper amp

GREAT photo
You may not want to leave your headphones on top of the Carbon - it can get rather toasty

Nothing like coming back after some travel to sit down and listen to the perfection that is the Susvara :)

Wow! That X9K is probably the best looking headphone I have ever seen except for the doo doo brown color.

Would be nice to have a matrix of the best sounding amps for Susvara within their respective price brackets. Should be very useful methinks

It's actually more of a metallic mauve. I find it very attractive in hand, FWIW.

So I recently bought a ferrum oor / hypsos stack to go with my WA33 as I just want a solid state amplifier and don't always want to fire up the tube amp all the time. However, I recently found while WA33 performs better than the ferrum stack, which is no surprise considering the cost of the WA33 with all the upgraded tubes (tak rectifier and KR audio 2a3 hps), I found further increase in performance by doing this crazy thing of using WA33 as preamp into the Ferrum stack. I don't know how why this can be better than just using WA33 as a headphone amp by itself.

I use a track that is complicated and bass heavy (The swan lake 1st movement), and the bass is just way more defined using combination of WA33 & Ferrum. Anyway having similar experience etc?

I haven't seen a dedicated thread to this headphone yet, so I thought why not create one,

So who has heard them?

Post impressions and pictures below :D

I have spent time with several HP. Most Notable Focal Utopia, AB 1266 and the Susvara. The Susvara is really very very special. The most real sounding I have ever heard. Hits all the technical marks and then some. Can’t say enough good things about the sound.
Having said that IMO the build quality for cans at this price are sadly way off. The great packaging show does not follow through with the headphone .Flimsy metal ,I fear i will bend very easily. Kinda spoils what owning a pair of these should feel like when handling. The AB 1266 quality is unmatched. And the Utopia is also top notch. The AB 1266 and Susvara are a race anyone can win sound wise…….it will be a clear preference thing as to your taste hard to fault either. Can’t take either off ….keep going back and fourth….Happy listening

I have the exact experience. I used WA33 as a preamp feeding into AHB2. The improvement was shocking to hear. I also did WA33 as preamp to CFA3 and had a similar experience, though CFA3 was less transparent than AHB2 to my ears. Both AHB2 and CFA3 are considered speaker amps to me. I wrote about it here https://www.head-fi.org/threads/hifiman-susvara.853031/post-17057566
