I’d pay $8K for a ZMF. This is BS because it’s normalizing crap build quality.

You’re missing the point. It may sound amazing, but the headphone is not worth the cost because of the shoddy Hifiman quality.
Jeeps are pretty poorly built, relative to their price. And yet they sell millions of them.
I think the point here is that build quality isn't always the only indicator of value. Value is whatever people are willing to pay. If you vote with your money, and refrain from buying them, if you're in the majority then the price will automatically come down.

I mean, same with Kia. Which was my comparison earlier.

Did I say they didn’t sound good?
They are poorly made with no resale value but they sound good.
How far back do you want to go? HE-4, HE-6 (4 or 6 screw), HE-500 seem to have held value well. Newer models which have been made in greater numbers and HFM's tendency to drop prices over time has hurt early adopters. For instance the HE-1000 SE has been dropped to $1699, quite a drop from $3499. HE-6 SE $1800 -> $499. Did you get caught in one of those perchance?

No, I enjoy the Sundara, which are the perfect price for a HFM.

But that’s a personal value judgement, not an absolute universal truism. Is it as solidly constructed as some others? No. But for some people that’s quite okay.

Depends a lot on the set, but take the Edition XS (my favorite.) I don’t think anyone would argue that the build quality is especially high. It uses very run of the mill materials and isn’t repairable in any meaningful way. Meanwhile the Meze 99 (a set I recently purchased) has an amazing build. Elegant use of materials, thoughtful engineering, fully and easily repairable.

It’s a difference in priorities. Hifiman doesn’t prioritize high end design.

Just lurking but my Arya is 1 year old and still in mint condition with near daily use... :) No "QC" problems.:)

Well, years ago, Audeze and HIFIMAN were indeed considered the "QC twins" of the industry (in a negative sense), but now their qc has significantly improved, and it's no longer an major issue afaic.

Why would resale even be in your mind then when they sound so good.

I counted, and in this thread negative comments outweigh positive and inquisitive ones. “Community”, eh?
the hand wringing following the 'unveiling' of another expensive high-end headphone is all too predictable in this 'community'. i find it tiresome but 'this too shall pass'.
