In this case, I would first of all think about improving the headphones. For example, up to the Dan Clark Ether С Flow or Dan Clark E3 level.
Or Kennerton Thekk.
I was thinking about Dan Clark Ether С Flow literally yesterday. I think the same - at first to do upgrade my headphones up to a next class, and after that dream about a next level of DAC/AMP. Headphones's upgrade I guess allow getting more sound rapture than change DAC/AMP + old headphones.
My budget up to $2500, Can you recommend something else?

Hifiman 1000se sounds very nice with Serenade.
And at the same time, they have significant reserves for improvement.

This DAC really reflects what a recording is giving you, warts and all. I have to go to my SMSL to listen a smother presentation with some hip hop and rough live recordings lol

People, what you are thinking, next a significant step from Serenade + Audeze LCD-2 Closed Back (my current setup)? SMSL SU-X (like amp)? And which Headphones?
Hi.
I was comparing the Serenade firstly with my Gato DIA250s - there was no difference in sound Quality.

Than compared it with Singxer SDA2 , from what I remember Serenade's sound was - I think - bit more open.
All in all a nice sounding headphone amp and dac.
But if you have a dac/ amp I would make a comparison.
