does anyone know what to look for as a replacement for the original balanced to unbalanced adaptor?

contact hifiman - they probably sell spare adaptors.

If you need a TRRS to TRS adapter in an elegant fashion, here's one solution, and a very expensive one:

I've purchased custom iem cables in the past from the seller and he does good work.  I'm waiting for a second hand adapter to be sold here

If it was priced $25 less, I might bite.

Mine still work after a year, but both strain reliefs have popped off the monitors and now slide up and down the cable. And I hardly ever use them.

That's what happened to me the first time but they didn't pop off the left one got cut off. The second time the strain relief on the jack was cutting off the sound. Hopefully the SD2 is better built!!

The RE-600 is not for everyone, as it didn't exaggerates any aspect of a recording and I don't see the mass immediately or easily wow'ed by its sound.  Its best qualities lie in how truthful and accurate it made your album sound, especially live recordings for classical, jazz, or vocal performances.  It don't have the "biggest" or "grandest" sound or even the "most analytical" sound among better IEMs.  It isn't a fun IEM, but it also isn't a dry monitoring IEM.  However, few IEMs can achieve the same realism for the imaging, timbre, and balance.

oh man , i wanna try this iem so screwing much
