Hifiman HM1000: Worlds first Quad PCM 1704 DAP

To be fair L&P serves a specific market, where SQ is paramount not whistles & bells.

Q-6
Even on the specific market dap that cost 4500$ must have UI/Ux at least from 2010 but not from 1985, imho of course. No gapless changing tracks, internal storage that is work like garbage with a sound just a bit better than 801 HM with FS Mode. I would be glad be part of this market , but not with this drawbacks

very interesting.. hm801 is a legendary device :) If the modded version is close to the hm1000 quad pcm version, then I've a good feeling about the modded r2r2000 :D worst case scenario I'll sell it and try to get a modded wm1a.. Can't go back to delta sigma.

I see you have the n6ii r01, how do you like it in comparison to the 801 and 901? i have the r01 too and after the honeymoon phase going back to the r2r2k it did not hold a candle to it..

I was comparing lp6 with 801 :) But it’s really good, but unfortunately very old device and really legendary one
Regarding R01, I’ve just sold it because for me mid bass was a bit slow and too elevated to my taste
901R with ufeel mk5 balanced amp is really black horse. I love how it sounds, dynamic is on the highest level, bass, mid, treblres all good and linear. But battery life is quite sad only 5 hours on high gain with my planar iem :frowning2:

Is it true the modded 801 sounds close to the HM1K Quad?! I'd really like to check that out.

he corrected and said that the dap he was talking about is the LP6, which is no less impressive :) but it makes sense.. r2r2000 is already up there with the best imo, considering diminishing returns it makes sense that mods will close the small gaps between these devices.. atleast imo

The LP6 uses the AD5790 chips, which LP claims are superior to the PSM1704K used in HM1K, for their R2R implementation. The regular LP6 uses 2x AD5790 while the LP Ti uses 4x. It is my belief that these are the top DACs in the market today, except the LP6 packs more power than the HM1K. I have been amping the HM1K and the quality of sound I have been hearing, especially from an IEM that scales well, is unbelievable. 😊

claims are claims.. :) if we look at claims from this site from various sources we can conclude that r2r2000 < hm1000 < rs6 < r01 < r2r2000 and it keeps going.. there's no definite answer when it comes to a subjective hobby. for example the apple dongle apparently has better measurements than the hm1000, but i'm sure that it doesn't come close to the sq of it, not now and not in a hundred years.

And sadly I've yet to try r2r2000's line out, but I'm sure down the line i'll get a class A amp for it

Thing is or was as R2R2K is now discontinued could be picked up for less than $500 for the smart shopper. $4500 you have to be speaking of the L&P LP6 R2R player. My own R2R2K is flawless and while it's UI is from the 80's it's sound signature is still hard to beat and that is arguably more the point with DAP...

it's signature is really the best.. can't listen to one song without being hooked until battery runs out :)

Getting an amp that matches is important. I have tried a few till I found a couple that matches the HM1K well -- the Aroma A100Tb + PSU and the Origa SE, both coincidentally from HKG.
