Hifiman HM-700 impressions

Anyone tried HM700 with RE-272? For RE-272, which one is better: balanced hm700 or dx50? and is this "balanced" stuff really working? (especially for re-272)

It only works for Balanced wired headphones.  That's why HM700 comes bundled with either RE400B or RE600 (balanced).  Using either of those headphones will give you the best combination of sound details and 3D imaging/separation.  You can use other headphones with either adapter or plugged directly, but it's not going to be the same.  If RE272 is your main headphones pair, probably better get DX50 or X3 (both at $199 on Amazon now).

Hm, I thought that 272 come balanced by default. So probably it would be a good idea to get hm 700 for re-272's

Oh, didn't know 272 was balanced. If it is, then go with hm700.

Thanks but RE272 is also balanced by default, so at this point hm700 will be better? Actually I think DX50 is more stabile, support all of formats (especially 24/96 flac which is important for me) but I really wonder hm700 with re272 cause for so many opinions say both of them are shining when using as balanced and it's looking like they can be perfect..

Yes, re272 come balanced by default.. If somebody can say "yes dx50 is more stabile but hm700 balanced output kills when it comes sound" I will buy but I'm not sure about that, cause if hm700 balanced output is on par with dx50's HO, buying dx50 will be more logical

I've never seen anyone talking about using 252, 262, 272 or re-zero balanced on hm-700. I've even tried to get a used pair of older balanced re's, but failed to find any. In case of 400's going balanced on HM700 has clear benefits to my ears (my GF owns normal re-400, so I did a comparsion)

I can also confirm, since I have HM700 and both RE400B and regular RE400 (w/included adapter).  The details, the soundstage width, the separation/layering and imaging is superior with RE400B in comparison to a standard RE400.

Thanks for answer. Yes, there's not so many re272 around, so not so many people can talk about this balanced couple. On side, some says "hm700's BO can beat dx50 or x3" and other side some says "re272 should drive balanced to shine".. and other side I'm thinking "not so many formats supported, no output for unbalanced headphones, ancient fw.." is it really worth? Who knows!

Actually one of my friend said re-400 benefited from balanced hm700 minimal when compared re262, re272 and re600.. he said especially re272 is the one that benefited from balanced hm700. After he used hm700 with re272, he sold his re262, re400, dx50 and rocoo p. That's why I'm looking for anyone if experienced same thing. For example Clieos said the exact opposite about benefiting from balanced output, according to him re400 benefited from balanced (hm700) more than other iems

I think it already comes with the latest firmware.  Don't recall them updating it after the release, but you can always check at http://hifiman.com/

I have an issue, i'm at the edge of buying a new DAP, and i don't know what to choose. My options are ibasso dx50 or 90, fiio x5, and these, but i don't know what to choose. I know the ibasso can have up to 128 gb of memory, but i was also interested in the re400. The hm700 looked like a nice deal, but i'm scared i wont be able to play flac
