Hifiman HE1000-SE

Keep in mind the HEKSE is slightly V shaped
favoring the very high treble (12k+). From my short demo of the v2 it was not like that.

So you better have smooth or rolled off chain or you can just handle it or old enough to not hear it :).

My experience is the opposite that the HE1000v2 is a bit u-shaped, whereas the HE 1000se has a super flat frequency with only a small 1,5 dB dip around 1-2 KHz.

I agree. Many headphones seem to have some form of dip or hump, and more noticeable in headphones v speakers IMO. I guess we are asking a lot of a single drivers covering a range from 20hz-20khz.
Having said that, the Abyss TC has a remarkably flat response. My old Stax 009s had a similar speed but the unnaturally emphasised treble and excess micro detail thrown forward, my LCD3 and LVD4 the opposite.

I recommend that you let the HE1000se burn in substantially before you compare it to other headphones. Out of the box it didn’t sound very good and not as good as the HE1000v2. After 50 hour it started to sound better but I could hear improvements after 120 hours as well.

HE1000se and Susvara are more similar than different sounding, whereas Diana Phi has a sound of their own that doesn’t sound alike IMHO.
I’m just ready to get them in hand to enjoy and start breaking in. I know I’m going to enjoy their sound signature as I’m a big fan of the Hifiman sound. I do plan on letting burn in a bit before doing any kind of comparison. Heck, I don’t think I have 100 hours on my Susvara’s. Every time I put them on, I just smile. They are so good....

I don’t know how the Abyss TC sound like, but the original Abyss 1266 had a very v-shaped sound with one of the most recessed mids I have heard of any TOTL headphone.

the susvara is the better HP...I own the susvara and owned the SE...that said the SE is marvelous....IMHO with the street price of the susvara down so much from the 6K retail price I think the susvara is the choice no doubt

I'm with you on that. They weren't a little recessed on the Abyss 1266 Phi, they were incredibly recessed! That headphone made me question other people's opinions when they talk like it's the end all headphone. I wouldn't put it in my top 10 headphones I've heard.

Am I the only one who can get bothered by the upper bass emphasis?

I am not usually critical about the bass much like the mids and treble, but man some drums can get on my nerves!. (3rd'ish of my drums tracks)

It's around 190hz and I have a special EQ pre set when the track calls for it.

Heck I wouldn’t mind more of a total bass emphasis with the SE!

Me too!
I even apply more bass EQ to some tracks.

It's just the very upper bass (hard bass) of some drums that bothers me.

I think there is an emphasis from 140-700 Hz, the peaks (small) I find are around 230 and 550. Since I only have 6 settings, I have:

low shelf - 98 Hz - +3.6 db - .78 Q to give a bit of steel to the low midbass down
digital bell - 465 Hz - -1.4 db - .7 Q to stop the low shelf from going too high, and to slightly relieve the upper bass/low mids

I'm pretty set on those two.

I'm still adjusting the other 4 settings at 1.5k, 4k, 5.6k, 8.2k

Having a balance control and EQ thru toneboosters ends up being my choice over straight MQA thru TIDAL most of the time - can't lose with those choices.

Are you sure this bass emphasis from 140-700 Hz is with the HE1000se? I can’t say that your conclusions match my impression of the HE1000se.

Ooooof! The sin of too many windows open. No, I have only a few minutes on the se, certainly not with an EQ. Sorry.

I don't usually listen to this kind of music, but holy !@#$ the HEKse made this track crazy immersive. Gotta love Spotify explore.
