Definitely echo those sentiments to a great group who not only helped me with my HE-6 journey but are helpful to everyone who wanders in here........

It's thanks to this group who got me interested in, then sold on, not only my HE-6 (best headphone I've ever dreamed of) but running it out of speaker taps, which simply put took a great headphone to an incredible level.

Looking to make some major upgrades. Starting with the HE6s.

I'll be looking into speaker amps but I would love to have a tube amp as well. Originally paired my HE500s with the WA7 but was disappointed with the sound and ended up selling the WA7. I've been reading positive comments about the WA5 + HE6 pairing so I may explore that option. Any other tube amp recommendations for the HE6s?

3W - not going to cut it.

Better option for a tube amp to drive the HE6 would be the WA5 (8W via K1K output). I can vouch for this combination working very, very well.

The Silver Widow cables I have for me HE500s have a 4pinxlr so the K1K output would definitely be utilized. Leaning towards the Wa5 because they'll work with my LCD2s and perhaps HD800s in the future as well.

Another vote for the HE6 + WA5 pairing. Very visceral, good bass, musical and good soundstage. Can't really ask for more. The 4-45 is not powerful enough for the HE-6. Haven't used the HE-6 much since I've sold the WA5.

But the 4-45 + HD800 combo is quite ahead of the HE-6 + WA5 combo IMO.

Thanks you want to buy one for me?

:D

My sad modded HE6 is gathering dust lately. If a cheap speaker amp can drive it as well as the WA5 I will buy it without any doubt....

Don't do it, that yellow automobile lacquer on the Egoista looks so cheap.  Hmm, might be interesting to set up a breadboard version of it :)

On an unrelated note:  looks like Elrog cooked up some 300B's, the first run had some filament issues but apparently these are THE crap, very tight tolerances (for a tube of course).  Selling at 975 EUR/pair, VAT in.  More here:  http://vinylsavor.blogspot.be/2014/11/elrog-er300b-update-2.html

The HD800 / 445 combo still falls behind my HE-6 / Audio-GD Master 10 no question.  The HE-6 / Master 10 combo just has that "body" and "soul" - the HD800 will never have at the expense of sacrificing detail and stage.

The HD800 / 445 is the best I've ever heard the HD800 sound, really they sound that good.  But If I had to pick only one setup - it would be the HE-6 / Master 10.

Klaus Schaffernicht of  Elrog mainly did tubes for aeronautics and industrial purposes.

this excerpt was taken from : " http://www.6moons.com/industryfeatures/elrog/1.html"

"...
now enter accredited engineer Klaus Schaffernicht and his brand
Elrog
. With it he supplies Boeing, McDonnell Douglas and Panavia with very different types of tubes. Uses include monochromatic cathode ray guns for monitors in airplanes like the MRCA Tornado. Over the last few years his firm has expanded into valves for gas-analysis test gear to eliminate the radioactive inspection sources previously standard in that field. He'd never bothered with hifi tubes...."
