I never liked silver cables either - agree with your observations of using it.

^ precariously perched. Id fix that situation before cable rolling.
Velpads are my preference (thus far) for 6se and 500. Will do subjective comparison later. In previous comparison I preferred 500, but now they have same pads and 6se has been modded with fuzzor which helped with smoothing treble but I may remove for sake of this comparison so as to be fair and increase relevance for most readers.

Agree on the Velpads and 6SE
You might be right. Velpads do sound a tad sharper than Dekoni hybrids (w/ 500), perhaps 1 step forward and 1 step back. Im just really inclined to find a common pad that I like with both headphones that way I may write a fairer comparison.Agree on the Velpads and 6SE

Good evening! Please tell me, do open grills remove overtones at high frequencies?

HE500, 6-screw HE6 (tungsten modded, 3.5mm & NAN headband), 4-screw EP HE6 (Audeze Carbon headband, 3.5mm & arctic airflow grills) & in the back HE1000se)
I’ve owned most headphones available, but few have come close to what the HE500 and the HE6 delivers. Their dynamics are just unmatched!
What overtones? HE500 shouldn’t have bothersome treble. If it does try the TP MOD (TP = Toilet Paper) or check your source, low power could make the inefficient HIFIMAN’s sound brightGood evening! Please tell me, do open grills remove overtones at high frequencies?

Very nice! If I may ask, what made you land on the thicker aftermarket grills instead of the airflows for the HE-500? Also, what material did you use as the dust filter?

Audeze headband looks comfortable with HE6, wish my HE500 had one!
Audeze copy There is affordable variant at aliexpress but uncertain if screws would fit.

Just random, my friend borrowed/stole the “thicker” arctic grill when he wrote a HE6 review (all-screws comparison, https://www.headphoneer.com/hifiman-he-6-three-originals-compared/)Very nice! His 4 screw LP “won” the review, but the differences between all OG HE6 models is really nothing to use as a excuse to not buy a pair! (I’ve owned all of them, sadly I blew my LP 4-screw on a faulty amp. Learned the lesson and after that I always check new amplifiers for faulty behaviour on cheap headphones (Fostex TR-50p is a good candidate) or speakers)
I’ve bought that, it will fit if you use a washer to compensate for the smaller width of the original screws (if you manage to get them out)Audeze headband looks comfortable with HE6, wish my HE500 had one!

HIFIMAN use a strong locktite on their screws, so some pairs are not easily modified without some extra work.
The AliExpress headband is also nothing like the audeze/NAN headband, the connection between the yoke and headband makes noise and the general feeling is cheap. I recommend contacting the guy that sells NAN headphones, and ask him if he could help you out.
I was planning to buy a few extra pairs, but his taobaoo shop has removed the headband listing. If anyone find his headbands please share the link

I have native velor ear cushions, unknown conductor cable, possibly silver, schiit Jotunheim 1 amplifier, may be weak? What overtones? HE500 shouldn’t have bothersome treble. If it does try the TP MOD (TP = Toilet Paper) or check your source, low power could make the inefficient HIFIMAN’s sound bright
A few possibilities:
- If you are using the Jotunheim single ended, you likely aren't powering the HE-500's enough. Using the balanced output will fix that.
- If you are using balanced and still having issues with the treble, both the the stock Velours and silver plated cable will lean out some parts of the sound. The cheapest fix will be to get the Velpads, and a cheap OFC or OCC cable from Amazon or similar.

Wait - your 500 does not have fuzzor - the stators are bigger than the 6 SEVelpads are my preference (thus far) for 6se and 500. Will do subjective comparison later. HE6se highs sounded much peakier than 500 so 6se got the treatment first.Wait - your 500 does not have fuzzor - the stators are bigger than the 6 SE
