The underside of the leather ear cup may flake off though.

indeed, but the blue tack did take some more off. But maybe it wouldn't have if the tape didn't get it started. Have you tried the actual mounting rings in there?

Just ordered the blu-tack. It's worth a try. That tape can be a pain in the ass.

IMHO you should also look at the Garage 1217 Ember,  Tube roll for much less $$$  both are hybrid designs Both have more power than you could ever use and you save some $$$$$.  And Garage is infinitely more adaptable to various cans should you get something different in the future

After a little reading and research I concluded Garage1217 was the better way to go also. Though I went with their SS option the Project Polaris.
