So now you're a DIY Proctologist?

LOL.  I wouldn't even make Rangy do that job.  You got 'em wedged up there with your comment.  Have fun getting 'em out.  Or maybe you prefer the enhanced low-end in your new configuration...

You're just jealous of this mod with its extended bottom end and tight ar$e bass.

To my ears (and memory...it has been awhile since I had the Alpha Pads on the HE500's), I remember it making them warmer sounding with a smaller soundstage.  More bass impact.

However, the biggest difference was the comfort.  Since they are so thick, it increased the clamping force (I find the HE500's have very little clamping force with the stock pads) but also made them much more comfortable.

I've since swapped them out for the FocusPad-A's which I prefer to the Alpha Pads.

What I'm really waiting for is the new pads that Zach over at ZMF has brewing.  Apparently they are better sounding and more comfortable cow-leather pads.  I can't wait to try those out once they are released!

Took longer to ship from California to Texas! What the heck?  Suspect you paid more though

(And for the record we do consider California to be a different country).

The most expensive one. The same one in my profile photo.

Ask the seller to modify the amp to have 12.6V filament voltage, then swap the FU32 with RCA 832a, 6n2 to GE black plates 5751. Total cost still remains under USD180.

Damn, nice find. I'm considering this amp for sure...
You really think this outperforms similarly priced SS amps?
Also any DAC recommendations?

Any USD180 SS amp with comparable performance? I don't think so.

I use the SMSL M8 DAC with this 5751+832a tube amp. This combo is my office setup now mainly driving my Grado 325e. But it drives the HE500 admirably.

If you find the GE 5751 3 mica black plate a bit too bright for your tastes, you can try the Shuguang 12AX7M
