By that logic then I'll wonder about the HE-6... And buy those. Though I cannot say that logic is incorrect... This is why I hate this place, or my wallet hates this place at least.

Ofcourse that logic is correct but than it come to budget. HE-6 is both expensive and they are power hungry so the other half is buying amp which can give them the power they need and nothing below 1000 margin can do that to do. So it is not ideal where as HE-500 is possible to manage if you already have a decent amp. By decent I mean most amp under 1000 can drive them

We'll have to hear a general opinion on whether the HE-500 upgrade is 'worth it or not' before we say they should be reduced. We aren't talking double the price (especially on the used market) and it's completely possible they could be worth the extra cash.

yea I doubt it either. But I think the price can reduce another 100-150 USD. There is room for it.

The HE500 is worth the asking price of 699.00 and not sure if he can produce these with a distribution network for less as the dealers need to make a profit to stock and offer their 30 day warranty policy ion returns. i believe the HE400 is priced to compete with the Senn HD650,600 and Beyer 880 phones and i will hear it at out meet in January but realistically I dont see the He500 going lower IMO.

I thought the HE500 was well worth it at their old price point (I was an early adopter) and I could easily see myself owning them again.

Can't say the HE400 isn't intriguing though...and since I've been considering an HD600 or 650 recently I think I'll wait to buy until we hear some of those comparisons.

only if money was not a limitation the possibilities would have been limitless for me :frowning2:

Just broke my fiio E10 and E7 which I used for my night listening placed next to my bed. Glade I didnt have my more expensive amp set up near me like I planned before. So now I have to put on hold the HE-400 and find a decent dac/amp for the k702 again! Darn it.

I'd love to hear these up against the 650s too! I own a pair of 650s and if these offer more overall detail and clarity I just might want them. I have the money to buy these now but can't totally justify it right now as I promised myself that I wouldn't mess with my setup for a few years once I had one that I enjoyed enough to get by, but oh well!

Hmm, a HiFiMAN orthodynamic 'phone competing with old dynamic flagships. I'll be interested to hear how these sound, seeing as I have the HD650 and the Q701 already, and will have the DT990 very soon.

Pretty damn excited to hear others' impressions. Love that these are easier to drive, as all I have right now is my trusty TTVJ Slim. :) Go Hifiman! And also, I wouldn't be surprised if they have some closed orthos up their sleeves for the future. They seem to be on a roll.

If the HE-400 is so efficient that it can be driven out of an iPod, won't the Valhalla be able to easily drive the HE-400, even though it's an ortho?

The new earpads seem good. No more broken earpads I guess?

I think what you read was the HE-300, people were comparing it to the HD 600 and HD650, ask Austin, I believe he did a review on it and said it's better than the hd650. other forums wont have the HE-400 yet, it's still on pre-order and some of people who are closer to Fang are getting a review unit :)

Thx for the info blankdisc but I have to say I´m not really happy about what you´re saying.  I heard the HE-500 is similar to a HD650 and I´m not a fan of such soundsignature. I love the DT990Pro and Phonak Inears for example. I was about to order the HE-400 already but after your explanation I will think about it twice.

Awesome!!

I hope there is a silver color instead of just the blue.

Im rocking the HE-300's  and this may force me to upgrade, I love the HE-300's and really want to try some planar magnetic headphones, these have to be the ones for me.

Too bad im going to vegas in Feb, i cant get them for the 350 price...

blankdisc, would it make sense to have the HE400 if one had the HE500 and HE300 for someone who does not like to have more than 1 headphone with the same sound signature even if one was superior in ability
