I could never get equalizer APO to work on my PC, not sure why.Parametric EQ?
Also, the wolly low sub bass response can't really be fixed I think.

Yes you can’t get bass cannon bass out of them, but with say a 3.5 db lift from 70 Hz down your overall score in the lower bass could go from a 5/10 to a 6.25/10. A SS amp with more juice always makes planars happier too in my experienceI could never get equalizer APO to work on my PC, not sure why.

My bad for replying to an old post but does the XS have equal or slightly more detail than the variations?I have both the Variations and the XS now. I did a little AB comparisons. There are some similarities. Variations does have more sub bass though. But the presentation and sound stage are similar on a lot of songs. Vocals, treble also similar. I'd say the XS has more mids, just a little thicker there.
I wouldn't say the XS is a big upgrade from the Variations in any department. And depending on your preferences you could like either one better. But if you love the Variations you'll definitely love the XS.
I don't have the variations any longer but I remember thinking they were pretty close in detail. My bad for replying to an old post but does the XS have equal or slightly more detail than the variations?
Maybe then K9 pro (AKM)?Just found this: https://www.head-fi.org/showcase/fiio-k7.26183/reviews
I am really tempted by the Fiio K7. Good dual dac + dual amp implementation, a hint of warmth and all the power needed for most cans, true balanced output. One reviewer event tested it with the Edition XS.
K9 Pro (AKM) if you can find it as it is discontinued I believe is almost 800 euros. It's way off budget, even more expensive then the Edition XS.Maybe then K9 pro (AKM)?
Swapping out, almost impossible , but . . .Just curious, has anyone seen posts, articles or pics of anyone that has swapped out the headband for a suspension head band on the XS?
Dear friends, here is my opinion on the Edition XS.
One of the best headphones in the sub 1K region.

Really great, they get more head time than the Ananda (V2),!
XS is one of the best value in it's price range I agree !Paired with the EF400, I'm content with this combo even after trying other Headphones like 109 Pro, Ananda, Clear... e..t.c. so the XS is definitely good value.
EF400 needs a long warm-up one and a half hundred hours!Plus, you just need to warm up after turning it on. You may also not like the soft wet sound especially if you like to listen to fast and electronic things. EF400 - device for classical music and non-aggressive jazz.XS is one of the best value in it's price range I agree !
But strangely I hated the sound of the EF400 with the XS headphone, I don't know why maybe my unit was defective.
I found out that my qudelix 5K cheap bluetooth dac sounded better in every way compared to the expensive EF400 amp.
